Sleepyhead nightmare!

Has anyone else had a nightmare weaning babies off their sleepyhead??

Decided my 6month old son was getting too big for it and took it away a few nights ago. It's been horrific!!

Goes down pretty easily for a few hours but then waking every 1.5 - 2 hours and he seems to have completely forgotten how to self settle - needs fed or rocked back to sleep!! I'm shattered Shock

Tried taking the insert out and using that in his bedside cot so he didn't go cold turkey but didn't seem to help.

I know you can buy the bigger size but wouldn't fit in his cot and would mean him moving into his own room which I don't think he is ready for just yet and feel like i'd only be delaying the problem.

I had to wean my DD at 3.5 months as she outgrew it then. I started by putting her down without it for one nap a day and gradually increased it. The first night she had without it, she was very unsettled so we chickened out and put it back. She did eventually go without it though, she just needed to get used to the feeling of sleeping without it. Good luck 😊

There's a sleep deprivation solidarity thread knocking around somewhere

jb1305uk · 01/06/2017 08:37

Our LO is still in sleepyhead at 8 months. We are going to try without it at the weekend and if that doesn't work we'll be buying the bigger one. Our LO is still in our room but likewise we cannot fit the cotbed in so we have a small crib. In the event that we have to buy the bigger sleepyhead, we'll put it in a travel cot until LO moves room. Would that work for you?

Lowdoorinthewal1 · 01/06/2017 08:37

They do big ones don't they? Could you just upgrade?

I had this when I tried to wean my DD (also 6 months) off it! Tried a few times and kept putting her back in it as she just didn't sleep, then suddenly when she could roll over it was better! She'd roll onto her belly and seem more comfy than in it now Smileshe will only sleep in my bed anyway but that's another issue! But yes join us on the sleep deprivation thread if you likeGrinwe're all friendly!

Will have a look for that thread thanks - think I need it!!! Zzzz
Our saga continues but I find myself with a decision to make. DS sleeps in his cot without the sleepyhead but will not self soothe himself back to sleep. After 2 hours at 4am this morning, I caved and put him in the sleepyhead and he fell asleep himself within minutes. So - I can't decided what's worse, get the bigger sleepyhead and continue with fab self soothing so we can start working towards him going into his own room OR power on trying to wean him off it and re start bad habits of having to feed or rock him to sleep after all our progress on self soothing ...... I think we may be buying the bigger sleepyhead.....

user1496393207 · 05/06/2017 07:36

I've been debating buying the bigger size sleepyhead for my 7m old but can't make my mind up whether it would work introducing it now after so long!

user1478684342 · 05/06/2017 15:12

Had almost exactly the same situation at 5 months with DS - we went cold turkey and it was awful for about 2 weeks (up for hours in the night/ rolling over etc) but he got used to it in the end!

jb1305uk · 23/06/2017 13:20

Just to update- we bought the bigger sleepyhead as our LO was getting too hot in smaller one. LO has slept brilliantly in it so far, slightly unsure first night but after yoga been great. Small sleepyhead was washed and sold on a Facebook site within hours

jb1305uk · 23/06/2017 13:20

Yoga?! *After that

NewMummy579 · 23/06/2017 13:56

I've actually bought the bigger one too. Have in after finding him with his body and face squished against his crib, he obviously likes being tucked in and secure in the sleepyhead. We actually moved his sleepyhead into his own room and cot last week and the difference in his sleep has been amazing. Just waiting on the bigger one arriving!

Is he actually too big for it? They can be in it up to 22lbs.

NewMummy579 · 23/06/2017 14:12

Not yet but almost - 19 pounds and counting!

Can you roll up a blanket and put it in an oval around him under the sheet? Then you can gradually widen it until he doesn't need it. I never used a sleepyhead, but I think this eased the transition from Moses basket to cot.

sunnywithadashofgin · 23/06/2017 18:10

I weaned him off at 6 months. I made a nest under the sheets to kind of 'hold' him. Then each night moved it further away from him until he slept without it.
