3-week-old v noisy breathing at night. Normal?

Hello, my 3wk DS has developed a habit in the last few days of really noisy breathing when we put him in his crib at night - he snorts, coughs, snuffles and seems to be breathing really irregularly. This is very noisy and can go on for quite a while but eventually he settles himself to sleep (if he works himself up to cry, we pick him up, but most of the time he doesn't).

The odd breathing then starts again when he wakes up for a feed, though it stops as soon as we pick him up.

It's only when we put him down still slightly awake at night that this happens - in the daytime he often naps in his pram after we've taken him for a walk or if he's fallen asleep on me after a feed, and then his breathing is soft and regular.

Just wondered if anyone had similar experience? Is it anything to worry about, or just normal newborn behaviour? (He's my first baby so don't really know what to expect!)

my ds was like this but he was alot older (8months) and turned out he was allergic to cow's milk formula but you are bf so can't be that(?)
probably nothing really. Wouldn't worry maybe just ask hv next time you see her.

My dd2 is 3 weeks old and makes the most alarming noises sometimes, lots of grunts, squeaks, snorts, breathing sounds a bit 'ragged' (not sure how to describe it) on occasion, then she goes really quiet and that's when I have to poke her to make sure she's still breathing! All quite normal I think, don't worry.

Both my 2 made really odd noises in the night. I found it really hard to sleep actually as I kept thinking they would wake at any minute. Dd did it the most for about half an hour before she woke for a feed. It was what she did as she came into lighter sleep.
