Genuine questions for co-sleepers

I co-slept with dd when she was tiny but then moved to moses baket and now cotbed. If she wakes in the night, luckily very rarely, then I bring her in bed with dp and I. This has led me to ponder these questions:

Do you and your dp co-sleep in the same bed, if so how big is your bed? Dp and I feel squashed with dd in our kingsize and neither of us are very big adults.

How do you put the lo to sleep before you and your dp go to bed?

How do you manage to have sex at bedtime other than by making a conscious effort to do it before you actually get into bed?

Thanks!

We have a king size bed and co sleep with dh. at the min DD2 is only 2mths so we go to bed togeher. Sex we have when we put the other 2 to bed and leave DD2 downstairs asleep.

Hi

I am an accidental co-sleeper. DS had a crib all ready and waiting when he was born - trouble was, he just didn't want to sleep there.

For 6 weeks DS and I slept in our bed but DH slept in the spare room (which he would have done anyway as we agreed he needed his sleep to cope with going to work). Then DH joined us and as DS started to get bigger it did become a bit of a squeeze (though I am tiny and DH is like a beanpole).

SO DH took the side of the cot that we had also bought off, and improvised a sort of bedside cot. It works brilliantly. DS starts off the night at 8pm in there, then when we come to bed at 11-ish he rolls over a bit to cuddle next to me, but there is plenty of space.

I never thought I would co-sleep (rod for your own back, etc) but I love it and our DS has shown us that he can change his sleeping habits to become more independent, only in his time rather than just to suit us IYSWIM?

Oh and what is this sex you speak of? DS is only 6m and I'm not ready yet..

Nemo2007 · 15/03/2007 21:31

must admit I didnt really cosleep this late with either of my other 2, DD2 is just very anti crib..lol

We co-sleep in a superking, which is about right size-wise. More dedicated co-sleepers put mattresses on the floor and keep adding mattresses until everyone has enough space!
DS goes to sleep at 8-ish and we follow on later. As for sex - bi-annual basis . It is the downside of co-sleeping, definitely!

we used to cosleep until ds was about a year old .we only stopped as he seemed uncomfortable-boo hoo!we have king size bed and it was on floor, room completly baby friendly so ds was fine going to bed before us.sex either happened quitely or elsewhere,when/if it happened!

We coslept with DD, with aid of a bedside cot, until we moved house when she was about 16 months old.

We had a normal sized double bed, and DH and I have always shared the same bed. We were adament about that and had that been compromosed then DD's sleeping arrangements would have had to b looked at again.

As we had a bedisde cot, I could put DD to sleep in that. We left the side down until she could crawl, and blaocked here way with cushions if necessary. They we used to put the side up, and just drop it in the night when she woke.

Sex was never an issue; never had any probelms finding time/space.

kiskidee · 16/03/2007 10:52

a king size is enough me me dh and dd. sex can happen anyplace where dd is not sleeping or quietly where she is.

FrannyandZooey · 16/03/2007 10:52

We had a super kingsize futon when ds was little, then as he got huge and wriggly we had another double futon next to that one.

I used to breastfeed ds to sleep either in the sling or lying down next to him.

Sex at bedtime was never a very good time for us anyway - too tired!

Thanks for your replies.

F&Z, I think that your bedroom sounds a bit bigger than mine if you have room for a superkingsize and a double futon!

Yes, possibly - there isn't any floor left in the bedroom, though, just bed. Visiting children tend to get quite ecstatic about it and it's a good room for rough play as it is basically a padded floor
