20 Months and still not sleeping

My 20 month dd still does not sleep through. We have tried controlled crying and she was sick twice within 15 minutes and cannot bear to do it again (besides she now climbs out of bed and runs to the door - in her sleeping bag!). Also tried just letting her cry it out for a while(when she was in a cot) Can't think of what else to do. Am I being too soft? Any tips or do we just wait for it to happen??

Hi Jill - My DS is 17 months is exactly the same and always been a poor sleeper. Sorry I can't offer advice but wanted you to know you are not alone!

Thanks ThisTime.

I have now started to sleep with her every few nights, just to get some sleep (although she still wakens up, it's better) and I think that in itself will probably start to create problems.

ds slept through for the first time at 18 mths - but not consistently by any means. Like you we tried cc a few times. It didn't work for us. He got gradually better, and now wakes maybe every 3/4 nights (he's 3 btw)
With dd (nearly 1) we've been much more relaxed - we're just waiting for her to get to it herself (she's surpirsed us by sleeping through the last two nights...fingers crossed)
I know it feels like it, but you are not alone
What so you do when she wakes? COuld you slowly make your reassurance less invovled each time, iykwim?

I'm a single mum since pregnancy and didn't put him into his own room until 16 months as i was up every 2/3 hours with him!!When I used to tell people he was still in my room I could see the shock in their faces but as no-one else shares my room I thought DS may as well!! I would have slept with him also and did try on many occasions in the hope of getting an extra few hours - but he slept even less

I just wish he would go longer periods as five hours uninterupted sleep would just be bliss!

As they say Sleep Is For The Weak!

I feel like we have tried everything. First of holding her, lying with her and then to just talking and sitting at the end of the bed, to then not picking her up and just talking to her. I just get so tired and give in and end up holding her.
She is such a light sleeper too. When she is lying there snoring and you go to leave the room she suddenly jumps up and starts to cry!
