My 17 month old sleeps terribly at home at the moment and I can't even put him down of an evening yet at nursery they put him down in his cot awake and he simply drifts off to sleep without a sound!! . The nursery have a small, dark room for them to sleep in, do you think he may like the small room and feel more cosy? Any advice to if you think that could be the case or how I could replicate that at home? Xx

Nursery will be very good at spotting when babies need a nap and so put down to sleep at the just-tired point, not exhausted and over tired. This timing makes a huge difference in how easy it is for baby to go to sleep initially.

I'm sure this is true now, but I am willing to bet good money that it would not have been the case when they first started doing it. They will have gone through a process of sleep training him.

I think nursery staff can be a bit coy about discussing such things with parents, given it probably involves some crying. And some parents fear the idea of sleep training.
