My dd1 is 5 months old, and I've managed to successfully get rid of her dummy over the last 2 weeks without too much problem. She now falls asleep in her cot at night, and sleeps through, for 12 or 13 hours. The problem is that she has never slept well for naps during the day. She has had bad colic and reflux, and a cow's milk allergy, and daytime naps are a nightmare unless I take her out in her buggy or the car. Even with the dummy, she often refuses to give into sleep, when I can see she is tired (eye rubbing, yawning etc). But we have more success when we use the dummy than if I try without - 45 mins of crying with me stroking her head, all for a 15 minute nap! or, even worse, 50 mins of crying, then wide awake and no nap. If I give her the dummy during the day, will she need it to sleep again at night? Will she get confused? Then we'll be back to getting up 2 or 3 times through the night to replace the bloody thing! (I hate dummies anyway, and only used one cos the hospital suggested it would be a good idea) It's not too much of a problem just now, but when I start work in 7 weeks and she goes to nursery, they won't always be able to take her out in her pram for a nap. Any ideas?

I would say don't give it back. You have broken the habit so don't step back.

Have you tried doing her bedtime routine for naps? It can take a while but I have seen it work! My DD does take longer to settle for naps than at night now, even though blackout blinds help a bit.

I also stayed at home for 3 days refusing all offers of starbucks! It really helped her get the hang of it before we started venturing out.

Also the Nursery environment will be totally new so napping there is going to be different, just reassure yourself that you have chosen a good Nursery with experienced staff who will help your lo to nap well.

This may all be old news but HTH a bit
