couldnt live without them

Deffo get them!

dejags · 07/03/2007 10:57

I wouldn't be without them.

When the DS's sleep in an unblacked out room (if we are away), they are up with the sun.

When they sleep in their own rooms, they sleep until after 7 on a normal day and it can be as late as 9am if they've had a late night.

Best investment ever.

ScottishThistle · 07/03/2007 10:57

Can't live without them in the spring/summer!...It's black out blinds or a child awake at 5am!

mylittlestar · 07/03/2007 11:26

glad i've seen this thread

have never had them and ds wakes up earlier as the mornings get lighter

we stayed in a hotel the other week which had blackout curtains and he slept til 9.30am!

just made me realise that maybe i need to get some too!

ComeOVeneer · 07/03/2007 11:29

Black out blinds are fab. However my mum made some new curtains fro dd's room and used balck out lining. It worked so weel that when you closed them and switched of the light you couldn't see your hand in front of your face and dd ended up sleeping with a night light

Nip · 07/03/2007 11:32

Absolutely fantastic - I would advise anyone with a LO to get them...

dejags · 07/03/2007 11:36

I agree with COV that curtains with blackout lining are far better than blinds - they don't let the light in at the edges.

If you make them yourself they are probably cheaper too.

I think that all babies and children sleep better with black out blinds (and me!)

Mine are waking earlier and earlier - it's definitely time to get the black out blinds mended (they all fell off last year!) and the blackout curtains up again!!!

dejags · 07/03/2007 13:03

Yes jetjets. Mine don't go to sleep in a light room very easily (unless they are knackered).

When we go away I normally just take some blackout lining in the suitcase to use.

BigCookLittleCook · 07/03/2007 13:49

We have a blackout blind and blackout lined curtains. DS sleeps well at home with them, but if I go to my parents' or sister's house for the day, he struggles to take his lunchtime nap as he is used to the dark. Always a worry when we go anywhere, maybe I need to take some blackout material with me for hols etc too.

soph28 · 07/03/2007 13:51

absolutely love them. We have always used them for our two and have never had early morning wakings.
IKEA do them for about 20 quid.

soph28 · 07/03/2007 13:53

mine are happy to take a nap in a light room- maybe cos our blinds don't block out all the light- they just stop the room being light at 5am.

deaconblue · 07/03/2007 17:11

FAb, I might get some too. I like to be woken by sunlight and feel it's a healthy way of waking but it is really difficult to get ds to have a sleep on a sunny afternoon. Will give them a go now I've read this thread

And they can also help keep the room cool (well, cooler, anyway) in the summer.
