Getting toddler to settle in new bed? - won't sleep and keeps waking

We have just moved our 2 year old to a full size bed in a new room.

1st night he took a while to settle but once asleep stayed that way all night

2nd night it took 2.5 hrs to get him to go to sleep and he then woke around 1am. Wouldn't settle in his bed so he ended up in ours, which meant I didn't get any sleep (I'm 39 wks pg)

He is still having a daytime nap of 1-2 hrs
Bedtime routine is bath, milk, bed

Any suggestions gratefully received!

ds is 22m and has just gone into his own bed and like you its a bit hit and miss. it may be the new room, can you put the bed in his old one?

TheBlonde · 06/03/2007 07:11

Thanks lissielou but that's not an option

I guess I'm just wondering how many sleepless nights I am in for

stick with your usual bedtime routine and be prepared for a week of sleep deprivation. Sorry no miracle cure, just persistance.

FYI DS settled after a week then about 2.5 started wandering the halls at night. We ended up putting a stairgate on his door to stop this and then he was ok. Also we relaxed about him being ASLEEP immediately - as long as he played quietly we were ok about it and now he puts himself to bed quite happily by 8ish.

Thanks, let's hope it only takes a week, I am lacking patience

Hi there. Have just put ds into a bed. I put a thin mattress between the bed and the wall so if he rolls that way he will hit something soft and a bed side (from argos) on the other. He was waking up too much without them and now he gets on fine. Hope this helps

I also have a hook and eye thing on his door so it's wedged open about 4 inches but he can't escape!

I am in pretty much the same situation, except my 22mt dd has decided to drop her day sleep and get up earlier in the morning.
She is getting better (week 2) at going down at night but the minute she is awake in the morning she screams blue murder.

Am hoping it will all settle down eventually

I take back what I said about still having a daytime nap.
Just tried this but instead of sleeping he trashed the room - books and clothes everywhere

I am supposed to put cupboard locks on the chest of drawers??
