What time do your 5/6 year olds go to sleep?

and how many hours do they need, ideally?

DD needs her sleep and wakes stupid o clock at weekends - 4:30 am last weekend!

I usually have to wake her on school mornings though. We try for 7:30 fall asleep time but it seems to be getting closer to 8 o clock at the moment.

Just wondering what everyone else is doing?

My 6 year old is a terror for sleeping. She goes up to bed at 7:30 but only goes to sleep around 9ish and I usually have to drag her out of bed between 7-7:30. She's just a natural night owl, on the weekends she sleeps in until 9-9:30ish.

DS 6. We aim for lights out by 8pm but probably only achieve this 60% of the time. It's often closer to 8:30. He has never been one to fall asleep easily so often he doesn't until 9 or 9:30. Waking is around 7 or 7:30.
He's never needed as much sleep as the experts say but the one thing we found was that he would stay asleep longer if we fed him up before bed. He still gets a bowl of cereal before bed.

What leggit said.
Dd2 5yo goes to bed at 7, I've lost count of the times she's still awake at 10pm.
I can make her stay in bed but I can't make her sleep. Hmm

ds1 is 5y8mo - 7.15-7.30 school nights, 7.30-8 fri/sat

Mind's 6 in a couple of weeks and we start bedtime (not including bath which is earlier and not every day) at 7:30pm - sometimes he's asleep by 8 but normally I leave him in bed with nightlight and his CD (one of several audio books he knows practically by heart) on and honestly don't know when he drops off - I go to bed at 10 on a school/ work night and he's always asleep then. He wakes naturally between 6 and 7 on days he could sleep in but on my work days has to be up at 6 and wakes easily - DH just puts his head in the door and tells him it getting up time, so he must be half awake if not already awake.

He does wake in the night although he doesn't wake us (he used to, but now just goes to the toilet then back to his room, but often gets up and gets books/ puts his CD on/ plays which is not ideal and needs addressing really - I'm somewhat afraid of trying to fix something which isn't broken and having him revert back to waking us or his big sister or brother multiple times per night as he did as a toddler if we remove his CD player/ books/ Playmobil - and often it's soft toys he plays with in the night and it would be mean to remove them!)

He has a lot of energy and seems happy so I think he must get enough sleep despite all the signs of things played with / moved / toilet flushing / CD on quietly if we check on him after getting up to go to the loo etc at night! Jury's out I guess...

I'd have to leave work earlier and pick up before 6pm to get DS2 into bed by 7:30. I'm too slow at cooking supper !

Dc 5yo is in bed 8-8.30 pm on school nights. Falls asleep in 5 mins after a story. Up by 7am normally.

On weekends they can choose their bedtime but thankfully if they go to bed late they sleep until at least 9am!

coolaschmoola · 09/03/2017 22:10

In bed for 7.30, asleep by 8pm. Gets up between 6.30 & 7am.

Ds is almost 5 and I still have to put her to bed at 6.30, 7 at the latest. I have to wake her at 7.15 for school. She needs buckets of sleep she always has. I wish ds was like her ..:

DS (5yo last December) has to be up at 8 mon/fri, 7.30 tues/wed/thur. He goes to bed between 9-9.30. He concentrates at school just fine.

I live in Spain Grin

He doesn't need to be in 'proper' education until this September when it becomes obligatory. School day is 9-12.30, 3-4.30.

nobullshitallowed · 10/03/2017 07:12

My 6 year old goes to bed at 6.30 and wakes at 6.30-7. I've tried keeping him up later but he just can't stay awake.

rainbowsandsunshine · 10/03/2017 07:13

8:30pm-7:30am... around 11 hours most nights.

Hullabaloo31 · 10/03/2017 07:13

My just 5yo had got to 7:30 before he started school, then we had to go back to 7pm as he's tired from school. Fridays and Saturdays is often a bit later. My nearly 2yo just goes to bed at the same time.

fairy68 · 10/03/2017 07:20

Sleeps 10-7.45 here
