Cotbed with > 3 base positions?

Can anyone please recommend a cot bed with more than 3 base positions? I want to get one which will go next to my bed with one side removed and guessing if there are more base heights available I will be able to create a better/safer fit.

this is the alternative

For my 4 children and 12 years worth of parenting, Ive had 2 different cotbeds and 1 cot all with one side removed. In that time I have had two different bed frames amd three mattresses on my bed - that these have be side-cared to.

In each of these, the cots have had 3 mattress heights and in each case the highest mattress setting made the cot mattress match my bed mattress perfectly. I can only assume that heights are standardised or I have been exceptionally lucky in my purchases.

If not though. You could also:

  • still extra holes to make the heights match
  • raise the heights of the cot legs by putting on books/tins/leg extenders.

Interested in this too.

We're about to buy a cot for our nearly 2 month old as she hates the Moses basket.

Would really like to have the option of taking the side off to put against the bed.

We drilled extra holes into ours.

Thanks all, sounds like can just go for a normal cot bed then. Plus some of those foot things if needed. Now to decide which one...

Just seen this thread and I was wondering if you used a cot bed in the end? I read that the sides which slide down and under the mattress have caused some fatalities. But cots and cot beds seem to be more stable than fabric pods. The only thing is that cots don't attach to the bed, but I guess I can put it close to the bed? Are cot beds easy to reach into from the bed? It's just that I might be having a cesarian and so I'm trying to plan to make things as easy as possible.

@Sarah210 I think most people start off with something smaller for their little one as cots/cotbeds are too spacious for a newborn. I had a Moses basket and then a snuzpod one which I got second hand and got a new mattress for. I loved the snuzpod and wish I’d just gone straight to that. Makes breastfeeding so much easier during the night to have him right next to me, and also can safely close it off using the zip up side when I’m not in the bed.

At 7 months we swapped the snuzpod for a Mokee cot and took one side off to use as a sidecar. The Mokee cot has seven positions for the base and so matches our mattress height well. Also bought the Mokee cot second hand on eBay and then got a new mattress. He seems very happy in his new spacious cot and has been doing lots of fun late night gymnastics. Hopefully the novelty will wear off soon.

Good luck x

My friend's baby didn't settle in her moses basket, so we are looking for something a little bigger and that will last a bit longer.

We decided against Snuzpod because the one we saw in John Lewis was quite flimsy. So that's why we are looking for either a cot or cot bed with 3 base positions. They seem more sturdy and less risky.
There's articles out there about pods and nests being dangerous. Snuz pods have had a lot of cot deaths according to this :

That’s a really odd article. It’s quite poorly written. There’s no snuzpod in the photo - what they’re referring to is a sleepyhead (the item with the chevron design) and yes they’re not recommended.

The snuzpod is just a next to me crib like the chicco. I am not aware of any issues with safety, quite the opposite in fact. Most parents I know have used a next to me crib at some point.

Good luck with your search x

I've seen a lot of articles that claim that Snuzpod isn't safe. Yes you're right that there isn't a photo of it, but it does clearly say ' Snuzpod sparked concerns among some followers' and people telling Fern to 'look up the pods as lots of COT DEATH with them.'

You are probably right that they are safe, but I don't want to get anything similar to these pod designs because it would play on my mind now I've read these articles :(

We've decided to get this rattan crib from Childhome that I can just put next to the bed. www.babysecurity.co.uk/product/childhome-rattan-cradle-cover-mattress/. We are going to get a cod bed eventually too.

@Sarah210 is this your first baby? You sound overly anxious about safety. Have you got some mental health support because whilst some anxiety is normal, you seem to be believing everything you read on the internet and that doesn’t bode well for when your LO arrives. Google and a newborn do not mix!! There is absolutely nothing wrong with a Snuzpod and no legitimate website would raise a safety concern with it. You may be confused with a sleepyhead? But regardless, I really would recommend you speak to your midwife about your concerns because they are disproportionate and may worsen post birth, so it might be helpful to get some support in place now. Sending this with only best wishes xx
