5yo - what bedtime?

Could I take a poll? What time do your 5 year olds go to bed at?

Partner thinks the time I think is reasonable for a 5yo is too early, I think the time he considers suitable is too late... It would be nice to see what others are doing in comparison so thankyou if you answer :) Reasons would be good too but just a number equally fine :)

Usually 7.30 but will be about 8pm tonight as we got home late and she needs a hair wash for school.

StarSpotter · 08/01/2017 19:16

Between 7 and 7.30pm. He's ready at that time and always falls asleep within a few minutes, so he's clearly tired enough! Wakes between 6 and 7.

coolaschmoola · 08/01/2017 19:16

If she goes any earlier she's up at six.

lht22 · 08/01/2017 19:20

7:30-7:45 (my son is 5 in a couple of months) any later and I have to force him awake in the morning like a grumpy teenager!
He gets up between 6:30 and 7:30.

LuchiMangsho · 08/01/2017 19:25

6:30-7. But he needs the full 12 hours and wakes up at 6:45-7 for school. Is a snivelling mess otherwise. He's never fussed about bedtimes so it works for us.

8pm
And he wakes at 6am Confused

TwatteryFlowers · 08/01/2017 19:36

Ds, 5, goes to bed at half 7 and is woken up at 6:30am on a weekday. On a weekend, he goes up at 8 and wakes at around 7am or later (if his younger sister doesn't disturb him). It's pointless sending him to bed any earlier as he wouldn't go straight to sleep and would just end up messing about.

Believeitornot · 08/01/2017 19:38

7pm is ideal but it's usually closer to half 7 or 8 by the times she's asleep. Usually she gets gradually more and more tired with the later bedtime so I have to make the effort to pull it back again.

DOTLEYtheONEeyedDINO · 08/01/2017 19:40

We had a lights out by 7pm from birth to about age 7 - it made no difference going to bed later in terms of what time they woke (always around 6am). It worked well with school, and having to be up by 6.45am. All children are different though. We are getting later now, but age 10 and 12, it's still bed by 8.15pm, reading (to themselves) and lights out by 9pm.

Zentangle · 08/01/2017 19:41

Usually asleep by 6:30pm.
No matter when he falls asleep, he's up at the same time next morning.

Wigeon · 08/01/2017 19:41

During term time, lights usually off by 7.30am. She wakes up between 6.30am and 7am,

Wigeon · 08/01/2017 19:41

7.30pm!!

grounddown · 08/01/2017 19:43

DD is 5 and we are just doing bath time then bed at 8. It's usually 7.30 but they wanted to watch the end of a film.
She would naturally sleep until 9am if I let her which is great at the weekends, she's always needed lots of sleep. DS on the other hand......

SteppingOnToes · 08/01/2017 21:15

Thanks guys - keep them coming! I'll update tomorrow with what time I think and what happens with DSS

It also depends what time they wake up. DS1 is older than 5 now but I would've loved for him to go to bed at 7 but he would never go earlier than 830. He was up everyday at 730 no problem. He just didn't need more than 11 hours.

PotteringAlong · 08/01/2017 21:33

Bath at 6.15, in bed 6.45, asleep by 7 for my 5 year old.

ImNotReallyReal · 08/01/2017 22:43

9pm and up happily at 7:30am. Any earlier and she's up at 6am. She's never needed a lot of sleep, but when she does sleep you could set off a bomb and she'd not wake.

My 3.5 year old crashes at 7pm at the very latest and will sleep until 8am, or later if allowed.

My eldest takes after me. We don't need lots of sleep, just good quality sleep. I can live happily on six hours a day. My youngest would be miserable if she didn't get at least 12 hours. They've both had these habits since they were born. I think the need for sleep may have some genetic link, my husband is an early riser. I'm a night owl. We're just all programmed differently?
