Specifically daytime controlled crying

I've been reading the latest controlled crying posts with interest and wish everyone luck with the dreaded deed. Glad to hear I'm not the only one with differences of opinion with DH as to the best thing to do. Very tricky situations all round.

Please could people help re my daytime query though. DD, 8 months wakes up from her afternoon sleep always after 25 minutes and I am trying to get this nap lengthened. I have managed to put her in her cot and she will now go to sleep by herself after 5-10 minutes with not bad crying. So far so good. What I need to know is for the next bit. When she wakes up 25 mins later, would I "just" do the 5 mins, 10 mins, 15 mins, thing where you go in and calm her? Then, as today, where she went off again after I left her for 10 mins (thinking that was OK but now think 5 mins would be best), she wakes up again after another 25 minutes. DO I THEN GET HER UP? Even though I don't think 50 mins is enough, it seems awful to do cc twice in one daytime nap. What you do think? Thanks.

What happens when she wakes after 25 minutes ? Does she cry the house down ? How long does it last ?

Hi PUpuce, after 25 mins she does cry quite loudly, for about 5 mins and then on and off for another 5-10 mins. Both times (days) I have left her, she has gone back to sleep again. It's what to do the next time. so far, the second time she wakes, ie after two sets of 25 mins, I have got her up straight away because I didn't know if it was awful to leave her again.

the first time, I just left her for 10 mins and she went back to sleep. The second day I went in after 10 mins to comfort her as she was crying quite loudly and left again and she went back tosleep about 5 mins later after weaker crying.

I have to get off the computer now but welcome your views and will look as soon as I can again.

If you can I'd leave her, she will learn to fall back to sleep and settle better.
Obviously if she cries the house down then you might want to go in.... but you are really helping her by letting her learn to settle

Just wanted to say thanks Pupuce. Today was a bit worse but she did settle after about 25 mins. Sory about the garbled details last night, I was in a hurry and couldn't think straight.

Purp, am going through exactly the same thing at the moment with my 8 month old. Am hating the whole cc thing, but have tried everything else I can think of and nothing else works and she is so obviously tired. However, my problem is that I feel so bad about it that I feel almost too guilty to look her in the eye when I get her out of her cot. She doesn't understand why I'm doing it and I feel unbearably mean. I am then quite uncommunicative with her for about 5 mins as the mental battle going on inside my head about the whole cc thing is very loud, so the poor thing is probably even more confused!!! Arrrgggg!!!! Do any of you have any experience with how you get your head around this one as I just feel like such a mean mum.
