2yo gave up dummy now no sleep, please help!

My lo turned 2 yesterday, for the last two weeks he's refused his dummy. He only had it for naps and at night but we think it doesn't feel good as he's got back molars coming through. He's been an utter menace to get to sleep ever since... He has always laid down in bed on his own until he's fallen asleep. Now he screams when we leave him, gets out of bed, runs around and genuinely doesn't seem to have a clue how to go to sleep on his own 🙁 He is tired at lunchtime but hasn't had his lunch nap in weeks and he only eventually goes to sleep at bedtime through sheer exhaustion!
Does anyone have any advice or experiences they could share or point me in the direction of?

I've never known a child want to give up their source of comfort while it is still needed.

I would continue to provide a dummy, I assume you are?

Have you bought new dummies? If he's teething he may have bitten a hole in the teat and so there is no suction in the teat. A new dummy may help.

Old ones new ones we tried everything... They last less than ten seconds before they're pulled out and lobbed on the floor!

Oh it's chucking the dummy that is the problem. I understand now. That's not saying "I don't want this dummy". It is saying "I want your attention so please come and fetch this for me".

Dealing with dummy chucking is a different thing. Have you thought about sewing a ribbon into his sleeping bag to attach the dummy to more securely?

Calpol then dummy? If his mouth is sore he will be assuming the dummy isn't helping!

He really does seem to dislike the dummy, it's always been on a clip for him but now he just sucks it briefly then screws his face up in disgust and spits it out, that's when he starts buggering about with it. Same thing whether I'm sat with him giving him a cuddle or not.
We do use calpol quite a bit when teething but it hasn't helped with the dummy I'm afraid....
He's also been very fussy about drinking from sippy cup...

This all sounds like symptoms of teething, so I'd just treat that:

Frozen things to chew (you can get teething rings that you freeze).

Wet a clean muslin square and out put that in the freezer. Let him suck and bite at the frozen material.

Lots of hard things to chew and bite down on.

Plenty of cuddles and reassurance to help him sleep while hes feeling rotten.

Calpol, inbruprofen, teething gel if needed.

It will pass.
