Reducing feeds from 6 to 5

Hello, so the wise advice on my formula tub says my 2 month old should be reducing from 6 feeds to 5 bugger ones. I'd this wishful thinking (cutting out the night feed Grin), or do they mean just spreading he feeds out more? Obviously I'm not going to starve the poor wee thing, but some extra sleep would be pretty amazing if manageable. Any advice much appreciated on if / how you managed this.

The tu instructions are guidelines. Feeds your baby when they are hungry.

Btw my HV said babies need six bottles a day.

Babies are thought be be physically capable of going a night without a feed at 6 months but 16% of 6 month olds sleep through the night.

I wouldn't pay much attention to the number of bottles on the tub just the overall amount of ozs. My six month old is still on six bottles.

Ignore the tub, feed your baby when they are hungry, that might mean more some days than others depending on growth spurts etc. They'll drop feeds when they are ready and sadly will only sleep through when they are ready. 2 months is very little and it would be unusual for them to go more than a few hours at night.

I wouldn't take much notice of the tub and give the feeds as often as your lo wants them.

Thank you all so much, I did wonder if it was nonsense, seems so unrealistic to expect a baby with a tiny stomach to go without a feed for long periods. Being a first time Mam I spend a lot of my time wondering and confused Grin

At 5 to 6 months my 91st centile dd was having 7 or 8 bottles a day - only one of those was in the night. She drank and drank and drank through the daytime - 8oz bottles (not fully drained though) every 2 to 2 1/2 hours.
