Already discussed with some mumsnetters my worries about ds getting too used to naps in a darkened quiet room. He is 4.5 months now and I am not returning to work for a while yet, but I am concerned that when I do he won't be able to have a decent nap in a nursery enviroment. He gets very overtired and needs to spend afternoon being drive round or pushed in pram to catch up if he doesn't have a decent sleep around midday.

Alibo - My ds started nursery when he was 4.5mths old. At first he would come home grumbly as he hadn't slept properly.... but after a week or so he was very used to it.

Can't you start getting used to a bit of noise around when he sleeps? Just quiet noises at first (radio on at a whipser)... and work up to just letting him sleep in the living room with the TV on.

I'm sure after a settling in period he will be fine sleeping in Nursery. My ds is now 3 and when he has a nap I usually have to lie with him and give him his comfort blanket thing (a pillow case.... any pillow case!)...and he needs his dummy. At Nursery, however, he just climbs into a buggy and shuts his eyes! Grrrrrrr!

How many days a week will he be in Nursery. Ds was in 3 full days a week.

Alibo - my ds started nursery at 4mths old and he too only ever used to nap in a darkened room at home. I fretted about this also but found that after a period he settled in well to sleeping in a light room and now has one good nap at nursery (there 2 full days a week). We've found that he sleeps quite lightly at nursery than he does at home (missing out on too much) and he doesn't sleep for as long as he would at home either but generally, his nap is enough to get him through the day to bedtime and come that time ds is definitely ready for bed! I have recently been trying to keep ds bedroom lighter for naps at home just so I know he can settle well as I have found that staying in hotels/friends etc their rooms are never as dark as ds is used to and I worry he won't settle. I am sure you will find your ds will soon accustom himself to sleeping in a light room and will probably sleep well as they are such busy little bees at nursery that he will be exhausted enough to sleep regardless...good luck!
