For about 2wks now my 16mth old daughter has been waking at around 4.30-5am every morning, had no problems before she normally went from 7.30pm-6.30/7am. Previously if she did wake she would just do a bit of a moany cry, her musical thing would be set off & she would soon go back off to sleep but now she stands up in her cot screaming her head off until one of us goes in. We have realised over last couple of days to just get her out, change nappy & put her back in cot, leave the room and she eventually goes back to sleep without crying (as before we were bringing her into our bed but didn't want her to get used to this!). Don't think it's because of nappy as not always full. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. p.s. put her to bed hour later last night but made no difference....!

is she having an early nap in the morning? i found i stopped DS waking to get up anytime between 4.30-6am by pushing his morning nap forward.

Central heating coming on and waking her??

StarKat · 13/02/2007 15:15

Thanks for replying, she only has one nap a day for about an hour after her lunch. Central heating doesn't come on till 6am.....

next door neighbour going to work? Milkman? If it is 4.30 on the dot every morning, I think it is likely that something specific is waking her.

my 12 month old the same grrrrr!

StarKat · 13/02/2007 15:21

Hmmm...none of those things, sometimes after she's woken I can just about hear next doors baby crying too but they're not next door to daughters room and it's not all the time. Also wondering about whether it's a drop in body temp. as she moves up & down cot in night, won't stay under quilt but she does wear bodysuit, fleece sleepsuit and put her in a sleepbag, but can't see this making her wake around same time

Hi Starkat

Similar problem with my DS2 - started in october with clocks going back and has woken 5 - 5.30 ever since. He is ready to be up for the day though, so wont even go back to sleep.

It's almost like an internal alarm clock as I know there is nothing external - noise or movement causing him to wake.

I certainly agree that putting them to bed later makes no difference - you may as well enjoy your evening.

I have read that putting them to bed earlier can make a difference (strangely!). I have started putting DS to bed at six (instead of 7) and he is not waking any later yet, but at least not waking any earlier (which is what I was scared of.)

I'm sticking with it for now, and getting to bed early myself - I will be posting if i have any success!

Sorry not much to offer except sympathy x

Hi hippymummy!

Thanks for replying, I was thinking it must be her body clock and at least she will go back to sleep so shouldn't grumble really!

Just does your head in when there seems to be no reason for it, will try the putting to bed earlier thing and I really should get myself to bed earlier too LOL!! x
