Sleep probs and waking up in the mornings

DS (4 months) has been waking lots in the night for the past few weeks, which I think is common for this age. At the moment, he takes ages to settle to sleep (tho obviously tired) and wakes every 1.5 - 2 hours.

The question I have is should I encourage him to start the day earlier (yawn)? He usually goes to sleep between 6 and 7pm, which is great for us as it gives us some time in the evening. After the usual wakings to feed or for a nappy change, we usually get up about 9am. He does often wake a bit at about 6/7 am, but I bring him into bed so I can get another hour or so of sleep . If I did haul myself out of bed, might this help with naps and night=time sleep?

He usually naps for 45 mins twice a dat btw,

might be good if you could get him to sleep a bit more during the day - i think about 2.5-3 hrs at this age. i think they do go through a more unsettled phase at this age though. it's supposed to be useful if you stick to the same time roughly each day in terms of getting up, but this is more important when they get older. i think i'd say get as much sleep as you can, ride it out for a bit - it will get better. do you feed him overnight - is he getting plenty of milk during the day? hopefully someone else will have some other ideas hth

Thanks! Yes, I do feed at night, though I try shushing a bit first (rarely works as he's determined to get his feeds in!)

You'll probably find that he'll settle into a routine by himself. Mine was waking up loads in the night at that age too, but he eventually fell into a pattern by himself. I wouldn't stress too much (although easier said than done!) and just go with the flow..

Good to know this won't carry on indefinitely . Suppose I'm a bit worried that if I leave it, this will be us months from now and my ears will have fallen off through sleep deprivation (or something )
