dd rolling stopping us all from sleeping - any advice?

dd (5 months) has had a cold and chest infection for the past few days so is waking up frequently at night- roughly every hour or so. the problem is not (so much) the snot and snuffles but whenever she is awake, she will roll onto her front and often get one arm stuck through the cot bars. she cannot yet roll back and will just yell until one of us puts her back on her back. but as soon as we leave the room ,she goes back on her front again.

until this week, she was always a good sleeper; she has never slept through but was happy to go to bed awake and would self soothe when put back down after a feed.

can anyone offer any advice? we are all shattered, including her!

haven't had this problem but could you put something in the cot to stop her rolling ? maybe wedge some rolled up towels between her and the cot, as long as she couldn't unravel them and smother herself i suppose. don't know if this would work.

is she in a sleeping bag

if not go and buy one now

tuck the end down between the mattress and cot

tuck lightweight sheet tightly over the top

she is in a sleeping bag - will try this tonight. i did wonder about fencing her in with towels but she is so inquisitive i would worry about her unravelling them.
thank you though.
oh and if i put a sheet on top, should i do without a vest under her sleepsuit? the only cot sheets i have are flannelette.

could you tie the towels into a roll so she couldn't just unravel?

good idea dcb - will have a try tomorrow with the towels. put her down tonight and as soon as she started to roll, held the bottom of the sleeping bag down, she cried for about twenty seconds and then put her thumb in and fell asleep! wont be so easy in the middle of the night though!

My lo can roll over and over too (7 months) - he is in long grobag tucked under the mattress - only a 1 tog. He is then tucked in with a sheet with towels rammed in between mattress and spars to keep the sheet (and him) firmly in place. He is not escaping yet !!! and sleeps like a dream. The only time he got out, he found himself down one side of the cot with arm out and face up against the spars, very upset ! He loves being secure....He is a very very active baby.

my ds2 is 9 months and used to roll and bang himself against the cot bars i nthe night waking everyone! i dint use gro bags as i dont like them, but he has a fleecy blacnket rolled up at either side of him and this seems to have stopped his rolling - although it hasnt stopped him waking during the night

thanks for your ideas - it actually helps to know i'm not alone! dd woke 4 times last night, twice i managed to catch her before she rolled but the other times she managed to untuck the gro bag from the mattress. will have a lookand see what i can roll up tomorrow.

still waiting for that elusive 'sleeping through' though....

just wondered how you are getting on olivo - my dd has just started to roll over (only 1 way) and i'm just waiting for her to do it in her cot at night! be interested to know if you had any success with any of the ideas or come up with any others.

hi dcb, sorry, been away for a bit. not getting very far although dd is now sitting up which is a preferable trick to rolling in the night! the only thing i do when she wakes up,rolls and gets stuck is to put comfort her then put her back in her cot and hold the bottom of the sleeping bag down for a coule of minutes - she soon stops trying to wriggle over and goes back to sleep. not ideal but is working for now!
i tried towels rolled up but she managed to pull them to pieces. she also managed to remove the sheet i used!!
will let you know if i find a good solution!
