DD covering face with sheet!

Had a bit of a shock this morning when I woke up and saw dd's feet instead of her head! She managed to turn herself round in her cot so her head was at the bottom.

She has started to try and hold her blankets when going to sleep now, and I think what has happened is shes reached up for the sheet and has pulled it over her head - I woke to hear her grunting , trying to get it off.

Obviously it really frightened me - shes only 17 weeks. Anyone have any ideas how to prevent this from happening?

Have you thought of using a sleeping bag for bedtime, rather than sheets? It would prevent this from happening, and reduce your worrries.

my ds does this too....he is also 17 weeks. I bought a gro bag....the best thing i have ever bought i can tell you!!

We solved the problem with a grobag, it also helped DS to keep his legs inside the cot rather than dangling out

Ds2 does this and has done from an early age. It's a comfort thing for him and he won't go to sleep without something to hold against his face. Ds2 is six months now and I've just left him to get on with it but alwasys given him a celular blanket with holes in so his breathing isn't restricted. I'm quite happy to let this carry on.

Both my Dd and Ds sleep with thier muslins over their face. Ive had one lady come up to me in town and comment on it as she thought i didnt know.

Grow bags stop them pulling sheets up by mistake also a fitted bottom sheet instead of loose ones.

My Dd2 and Ds both liked to sleep with something against their heads. I always used to remove it once they were asleep.
My Dd2 also liked to go to sleep with stickers stuck on her cheeks. If i couldn't find a sticker i'd have to wet a peice of paper and stick that to her cheek . Got some very funny looks some times i can tell you. Worked though, she'd always zonk out 5 mins later.

Should explain that she was the one who discovered she liked it. I didn't just start sticking stickers on her to get her to sleep .

my dd sleeps with her muslin over her face too, or anything else she can find if that's not there (huge stuffed donkey at nursery). It's really easy to breathe through the muslin - I've tried -after the first few sleepless nights of her doing it (do know how you feel). We use grobags so don't have the sheet problem.

All 3 of mine have slept like this too. Invaring degrees they have all had to have 'blankies' on or over their faces.

Ds3 can be absolutley inconsolable and impossible to settle but as soon as his blanket is touching his face he immediatley stops and snuggles down to sleep. We now have 2 blankies because of this........couldn't risk the blankie being wet on washing line again!

u can purchase a win poo growbag from Asda-George for only £10. then try using a cusky from the bumps catalogue. www.bumpto3.com. U sleep with it for a few nights urself so it gets ur smell then give it to ur DD.My DS loves his.

emmatmg · 14/06/2004 20:53

I've got 2 Adsa sleeping bags in 6-12 months if they're any use.

Going cheap to the anyone..........

My DD2 (now 4.5) has always had a "muslin" blankie against her face when she sleeps - she still does it

When she was a tiny baby, I used to get various comments from strangers whilst we were out and about. Remember one woman at nursery having a go at me - she noticed DD2 in her carseat with a blankie over her face and told me off for letting her "suffocate" and how irresponsible I was etc etc.

She then got in her car with her toddler, windows completely closed then proceeded to light up a fag with her.....

elliott · 14/06/2004 21:04

yep, my ds2 does this - needs to have something touching his mouth to get to sleep! He's in a grobag so I gave him a cuski (least worrying thing I could think of to have over his face!) But now he's 6 months, like flip, I don't worry.

cuppy · 14/06/2004 21:23

thanks everyone - maybe a grow bag is the asnwer.

I was really scared as she had pulled her top sheet right down over her face to her neck, obviously by accident as she was then struggling to get out and couldnt. I can see a sleepless night ahead.....

Grobag delivers really quickly through the bump to 3 site - within a day or two normally.
