6 month old always cries on waking

. Always has done, whether daytime nap or first thing in the morning - except maybe about once a fortnight when he'll coo for a bit. The other mums in my postnatal group talk about how their babies babble happily to themselves on waking.

I've watched ds wake up a few times and he looks scared, panicky and takes a few seconds to realise I'm right there, though he soon calms down on being picked up.

Just wondered if other people's lo's are like this and if so when do they start chilling out a bit about waking?!

Blimey, my 16 month old still does this. Hopefully someone will have some pearls of wisdom for us.

mine bables to himself nicely for about 30 seconds. If you don;t catch him at that point he cries - calms down easily though. I don't see it as a big problem (and anyway they're probably all exaggerating)

uh, my ds still does this most mornings ... and he's 3 Dd is a gurgler. I've given up fighting it and decided that (like his mum!) he aint a morning person ... sorry, that ain't what you want to hear, is it?!

My ds usually only cries when he wakes cos he has wind and needs to burp, sometimes its just for no reason, so i put it down to him havng a bad dream

My DS1 has cried EVERY time he wakes and always has done - he's two. DS2 just gurgles. You are doing nothing wrong he just doesn't like waking up.

Mummy2TandF · 08/02/2007 23:14

my ds is 2 and he still wakes up crying or now he can talk properly - whining and shouting out for me , he has never woken up happy although he is not really sad either - he is fine once I have gone to him - I think he is just like his dad because dh hates waking up too
dd is 13 weeks and she always wakes happy and chatting to herself - it is so much nicer but they are both happy children. I don't think it is anything to worry about - at least I hope not

bitzermaloney · 09/02/2007 11:09

Ah, I guess he's not alone then. Had been starting to wonder if I'd been giving him nightmares or something. I think you're probably right that they're exaggerating suejonez - I suppose it's hard to get things in perspective when you've only been alive a few months . Thanks all!

my mum told me that as a baby I used to cry before I even bothered opening my eyes! Think she still resents it! I'm a reasonably well adjusted adult now with no sleep problems (other than not getting any sleep thanks to DS), so in my biased way I think it's just how some babies are
