Night lights

Ds (3) has recently developed a fear of the dark. He's always been a great sleeper so this is quite out of character for him. We've tried leaving his bedroom door open and the landing light on but I think that's too light for him. Can anyone recommend an night light or any tips?

The BT baby monitors have a built in night light which we use for our daughter. It's a nice glow- not too bright and doesn't turn off in the night like a lot of others do.

We use one like this. It's plugged into a timer so it switches of at about 10pm every night as I didn't really want something on all night.

My ds is 2 and he has this one which is really good. We use it for reading his story and if he needs to come to us or needs the toilet he can use the torch to come to us. It's a very subtle light and easy for him to use. They do loads of different characters too.

You push it down to turn on or off and it can be left on all night and doesn't get hot.

Thanks everyone I'll have a look into them. He's still in pull ups at night, I hadn't even thought about him using one to go to the toilet so that's a good point! I'm not sure what's brought all this on but he's still awake now which will make tomorrow morning interesting...ConfusedGrin

When looking for night lights the best type to get is the red ones as any other colour light inhibits melatonin and results in lighter/less restful sleep over all and trouble falling asleep. There has been loads of studies done on this. I've got a plug in socket night light that is red and also has a light sensor so changed depending on the darkness of the room. I will find and post the link.

As an alternate to a nightlight you could buy a dimmer switch. Really easy to fit and allows you to dim the overhead light right down low.

Here is an article about it and there is a link further down on the page recommending some night lights sarahockwell-smith.com/2015/03/19/one-simple-way-to-improve-your-baby-or-child-sleep/

Actually I don't use the night light yet - I've just got it in case either of my boys (7yrs and 2.5yrs) decide they don't like their dark rooms!
