Help! Previously perfect dd now teething and waking hourly at night.....I'm going crazy!!

DD just under 6 months, gorgeous GF baby.....started teething last week.....bottom 2 are now through. Last night she woke up crying at 1:30, 3:30, 4:30, 5:30 & 6:15. Baby Anbesol seems to work but you're only meant to use it 4 times in 24 hours... I'm trying not to feed her as don't want to ruin her day time routine (which is pretty good) and before last week she was sleeping 7pm to 7am every night. Could this be teething combined with a growth spurt? How long does teething go on for - if it's a week then I can cope but if it's months then I'll be a wreck pretty soon! Any suggestions welcome.....help needed desperately.

If you are sure it is teeth, I'd go for some fairly hard drugs: paracetamol and or ibuprofen (the baby versions obviously).
If you are worried its a growth spurt, then how about increasing daily milk/food intake?
Whatever it is, it will pass!

Can we get a cup of tea together and discuss our horrible nights? Mine is teething as well an has been crying histerically all night long.
With the first teeth he cryied for 2 weeks each time and stop eating so I allow him to leave his GF routine for a while because he was not eating at all. There were intervals of atleast a month between each tooth. So there's light at the end of the tunnel.

Mummyintexas, where in Texas are you?

mummyintexas · 11/06/2004 15:55

I'm in Houston - where are you?!

She's still eating lots during the day (I was just starting to drop her afternoon feed but have since dedided we should keep it until she's going 12 hours at night again). It's definitely teeth - I can see & feel them...
Think I might start on the beloved Calpol tonight(brought some back with me last time I came over) - I've heard Tyelenol isn't as good.
I'm encouraged by your note Chandra - hopefully when no.2 tooth is fully through we'll have a break.

In Yorkshire! but I was expecting probably a familiar face, I did my BA in Texas, but not in Houston, still have many friends over there but living mainly in Dallas.

How old it your DS Chandra? Did you use any pain relief for him?
So jealous you're back in the UK - I hate the weather here - as hot as Dallas (97 yesterday) but with 100% humidity - horrible!!

You probably are right that it's a tooth problem especially as you can see them coming through but I just wanted to get you to double check that she's not ill in any other way as my dd was never bothered by her teeth coming in, and even with molars wasn't waking up on and off every few hours all night. Might just be worth checking for an ear infection or something giving her pain when she lies down just in case? The teeth might be coinciding with something else happening and throwing you off the track.

15m old, I'm using Calpol and a teething gel but don't seem to be working at all. HV has just recommend Anbesol Baby (same principle as teething gel but in liquid), I'm off to get it now.

mummyintexas · 11/06/2004 18:24

Is it safe to use Calpol and Baby Anbesol at the same time - I won't be overdosing her will I? I don't think it's an ear infection, though I'll mention it to my Paediatrician when we go in beginnin of next week - she seems to be sleeping fine for her 3 day time naps (she doesn't want to drop the late afternoon one, she still needs it), so I don't think it's the act of lying down that's giving her pain.
Thank you all for your advice thus far!
