popsycal · 04/02/2007 22:57

oh yes i tried being cross
actually-i often dont need to 'try'
he just woke up there shouting 'jeff'
well what he actually shouted was 'boo-ey' which to him is the noise jeff from the wiggles makes when he wakes up and that is what d2 calls him or anyhting purple for that matter)

he is cold
going to put socks on him and a little cardigan thing i think
heating is on low

Popsycal

Do hang on in there. Ds hated covers, gro bags and any fleecy sleepsuits from the age of 16 months to 2 years old.

In the last 2 months (he is 2.2 yrs old) he has started to ask to be 'tucked up' in his blankets before going to sleep. No idea why though he just started asking for it.
Before this he ALWAYS kicked them off and screamed if you tried to cover him. Mind you after 3-4 months of sleeping until 6/6.30am he has started waking at 4.30-5.30am again (He did this for almost a year before). So if it is not one thing it is another

Nothing works to get him back to sleep - absolutely nothing. Once he is awake he can't seem to get back to sleep. He has cried in the morning for up to an hour (by which time it was time to get up anyway) so I now just let him come into bed for an hour in the morning. He doesn't go back to sleep but after 6 months of me getting cross every time he fidgeted and kicked etc and putting him back in the cot for a while he now will lie quietly in bed with us (even if he doesn't sleep) for up to an hour. It is something anyway!!

Not much help I know - just wanted to sympathise really and give you some support. Bad sleepers are such a nightmare!!

piglit · 05/02/2007 14:08

Popyscal - I'll be watching this thread with interest. Ds2 (1.3) is a shocking sleeper so we are trying some sleep training tonight.

If you listen very carefully you'll probably hear me screaming "Alright, have the f*cking bottle" at around 2 am.....

Good luck.

popsycal · 05/02/2007 20:11

is camping out in his bedroom giving him the wrong idea ior giving him reassuarance?
hmmm
debating whether to actually go in my bed tonight or to continue....

OP posts:
VeniVidiVickiQV · 05/02/2007 20:16

No, stick at it. You are doing well.

You could try not being in the room with him tonight. See how it goes. As long as you dont crack and bring him into your bed/feed him.

popsycal · 05/02/2007 20:27

that is the thing....
it is so much easier to see it through if I can simply turn, grunt and doze

OP posts:
VeniVidiVickiQV · 05/02/2007 20:35

indeed. Its why it was so much easier when we had our loft down and we were "upstairs" from him. Because:

a) we couldnt hear every snuffle
b) he couldnt hear every snuffle
c) we would leave him to go a bit longer because we were too lazy to go downstairs

popsycal · 05/02/2007 20:40

decided
i will do the camping out thing
am shattered and therefore will cave in if i have to get up and down

he is slowly getting better
i will do the turn, grunt, ignore thing tonight

OP posts:
nulnulcat · 05/02/2007 20:49

i had a really bad sleeper so i probably did the wrong thing and used phenergan but it worked she went from waking up every 30 -40 mins without fail to just a couple of times a night did it for 3 nights cc hadnt worked with her she would just cry for hours and the neighbours got pissed off

she is 3 now and still doesnt go through the night but i can get 7 til about 830 with just 2 or 3 waking ups if i am lucky and she goes back to sleep within 5 mins

i do sympathise though and would do anything to get a full nights unbroken sleep!

popsycal · 06/02/2007 13:34

well
woke 3 times last night
once before ii went to bed, once at 1:30 but went back to sleep immediately after my 'grunt'
then once more. not sure what time, but asked 'lillow and lanky' - pillow and blanket - then snuggled down and went to sleep
was woken at 5~:50 when ds1 stormed in dressed as spiderman....

OP posts:
VeniVidiVickiQV · 06/02/2007 13:35

Sorry but im pmsl at being woken by spiderman

popsycal · 06/02/2007 13:39

that is won of his better guises....
did I ever tell you about the day he came into the room at 5am with sanitary towels stuck all over him and swinging a tampon in each hand?
That was the 'wounded soldier' look apparently....

OP posts:
popsycal · 06/02/2007 13:39

one of his....
argh

OP posts:
VeniVidiVickiQV · 06/02/2007 13:51

PMSL!

popsycal · 06/02/2007 18:16

ok
so tonight is a key night
I am at work
it has been 5 nights now - onto 6th night
I don't feel too tired tbh
am going to do the same again but with really minimal involvement
simply one syllable grunt then roll over and see what happens

OP posts:
ludaloo · 06/02/2007 18:25

popsycal...you are doing brilliantly!!!

I have had to do this with all my three....it will work....

I still have to lie with my 18month old to get her to sleep, but I can very quietly sneak way now. She ocassionally wakes, but a reasuring hug and a pat usually gets her back off quickly.

well done you

VeniVidiVickiQV · 06/02/2007 18:42

Yep, I just used to say "its night night time" and nothing else.
