When can I drop 3rd nap?

So my DD has always been a nap resister. Her night time sleep varies but at the moment it seems to be asleep by 7, 1/2 wake ups then awake for the day around. 6. A bad day for naps sometimes impacts on her night sleep but other times not. She has her first nap around 2 hours after waking then another 2-3 hours after that. If she's in her cot she generally cries for about ten mins then sleeps. Her naps range from 30-40 mins to 2 hours, although shorter naps are much more the norm! Occasionally she's only had two naps, if she's woken too late from the second to squeeze in a 3rd (she has to be awake from 4 otherwise she takes forever to get to sleep at bedtime). But generally she has a third nap which she FIGHTS. I cannot get her to have it in her cot at all, it has to be in the sling which is getting to be a huge PITA especially if I have been out in the day and need some time at home!! Basically I'm wondering do I just suck it up knowing it won't be much longer until she drops it anyway, or should I do some kind of sleep training around having the third nap in the cot?! She's 7 months. Thanks!

Summer yes it definitely helps to not feel alone! :) try not to stress about the crying, easier said than done I know, but I'm sure the other guests won't hear that much anyway :) we stay with our in laws a lot and I am always super paranoid about her waking up and waking everybody! We are going to stay with them soon for two weeks so there are going to be a lot of 5am starts for me Confused I try to think of it as good practice for going back to work as I'm probably going to have to get up stupidly early to get DD ready and to nursery on time!! How is everyone getting on? Has anyone achieved the dream of 2 long naps?!?

I gave up on naps and have let him sleep on me or in the car for as long as he wants so we are still usually having 3 30-40 minut naps, although yesterday we had two hour long ones (one on me and one in the car seat)

We have been doing controlled crying at night for the past week which has been going really well. I tried it for naps but for some reason it didn't work at all. Once bedtimes are reliable I will go back to naps. I'm determined to crack them before I go back to work in January!

Hope everyone else has had better luck!

Do I just need to accept we'll start our day at 5.30am?

My 5.5 month DS has just started getting a bit of a routine but he generally is wide awake at 5.30am. I tend to try and get him back to sleep for half an hour or so, then give up and just lie on the sofa while he wriggles around on me. So it's not the most well-used time. Occasionally he'll sleep again after an hour or so, for another 30/40mins, but not often.

Should I try and get him to sleep longer, or just accept it?

This is his very rough routine

Sleeps 6.30pm/7pm to 5.30am ish
(2 night feeds between 12 and 2, and then 4ish)
Nap 1 between 8 and 8.30am, usually 1.5 hrs, sometimes 40mins
3hr wake time
Nap 2 between 12 and 1pm, usually 40 mins, or 1.5hrs if Nap 1 was short.
3 hr wake time.
Cat nap of 30mins between 4 and 5pm
Bed again 6.30-7pm

I figure he's getting between 10 and 11hrs sleep at night, then around 2.5 hrs during the day. so a rough total of 13hrs

He is generally very contented so I don't feel that he needs more sleep necessarily and if I do put him down earlier he'll just wriggle around and talk to himself for longer.

Should I get him up and start doing stuff with him, or leave him to chat to himself while I try and sleep more (which he would happily do, at least for a good while), or keep trying to get a later wake time?
Any suggestions on how to get him to wake later?

Thanks!

Hey Summer I didn't see your update but was just thinking about this thread today! Grin we are still resolutely on three naps... In fact the last few days she hasn't napped for more than 30 mins so we've been doing 4 Confused we are away staying with family and she's teething and has terrible nappy rash so it's all gone a bit arse ways!!! We've started feeding again at night and have been up twice a night and then up for the day at 6... I can't do any controlled crying here as it would wake the whole house so I think we'll be back to square one when we get home!! ConfusedSadConfusedSad brilliant to hear controlled crying is working well for you :) hope it continues!!!
