Separation anxiety? 9 months previous good sleeper no longer...

My DS, 9 months, used to sleep brilliantly, a little fuss (not too much) when we put him down but could get himself back in the night if he woke. Now any time we put him down we have tantrum-like screaming for ages! And the worst is, he stands up in his cot, so we have to go in and put him back down (can't really just let him cry it out, unless there's something I'm missing).

Please post back tips on how to deal with this for any of you who have already been through this. Also any guesses on why he's doing this (and how to "fix" the underlying problem)?

In case it makes a difference, I'm a stay at home mum (with him all day every day) and breastfeeding.

Just to say I know how you feel re: separation anxiety. I'm not having a problem in the evening but my dd is 8 months old and I am starting to get a problem in the night (See thread about early waking) which I think may be related to this.

Dd wants me by her side all day and often cries when I leave the room. I 'm sorry I don't have any advice although my mum thinks I should give my dd an item of my clothing to snuggle up to at night. I haven't tried it yet but might give it a go. Might work for you?

DS went through this 'pre'- phase of separation anxiety about a month to a month and a half ago (the age you say DD is now). It started as you say. Then he got 'better' and seemed okay... and now this! So watch out!

Will try the item of clothing. I had read about that for newborns but hadn't thought of that in this situation. Thanks!
