Taken dummy away now DD won't sleep..............

DD 3.5, left her dummy out for Santa to take away on Xmas Eve. She only had it a night and used it to fall asleep then it just fell out her mouth. She always fell asleep before 8pm (goes in her room at 7:70pm and plays for a bit) now she won't sleep until 9:30 - 10pm. She is so tired in the mornings because she hasn't slept. She also used to sleep with the lights off now we have to have the lamp on or she creates merry hell. Have tried switching them off when she is alsleep but if she wakes in the night she goes beserk!

I know this all stems from taking the dummy away and I am not going to give in and give it back to her. I am worried about leaving the lamp light on all night for risk of overheating and fire.

Really don't know what else to do!!

Bloody typing mean to be 'she only had it AT night' and 'goes in her room at 7:30pm'

have you tried a dim or coloured bulb in her lamp, or one of the sensor lights you put in the plug socket... does she enjoy a story tape to help her unwind?

Lulu have tried a dim night light but she just gets up and switches the main light on. She says she has to see the monsters coming so she can hide!

If teh lights were off I know she would go to sleep straight away, instead of being up til 10pm.

Whats to lowest watt bulb you buy??? She has a 40w at the moment.

IT may partly be age aswell as DS is 3.3yrs and has all of a sudden started to fret over monsters coming out of the toilet and screams if the lid is up or the bathroom door is open[his room is on opposite side of landing]. Both Ds and DDs rooms have lamps in that are left on all night. DDs is one of the ikea wall lights which is dim enough not to disturb them but offers enough light for it not to be pitch black. DS has a next car light which is very bright but it helps him.

Unfortunately she has spotlights so not that easy. DH did tape up the light switch so she only had the night light but she woke the dead with her screaming.

I wouldn't object to light so much if she went to sleep at a reasonable time, 10pm is not reasonable at her age and makes cranky. I don't want to start introducing naps as she starts school in Sept so not practical.

Lulu cross post. I don't know of a particuar thing that has scared her. She did say there were monsters under her bed, just like Noddy's. I guess there must have been an episode of Noddy with monsters in.

do you check under the bed with her? show her there is nothing there? might just be one of those things that little ones get fixated on, and then forget abou after a while

I would take her to choose a really spectacular nightlight, then tell her she just has this on, not the main light. Tell her if she leaves the main light off, she can have this beautiful thing on ALL NIGHT, but if she has the main light on you will turn both lights off and she will have to make do with the hall light.

Ds did exactly the same thing a while ago (not cos of a dummy, gawd knows why really) would get up and have the main light on, which as you say is far too bright. We threatened the hall light only so he was very happy to have his nightlight on all night - worked a treat.
