keeping baby warm at night

morning all, hope you and little one(s) are enjoying the snow

dd (8 months) goes to bed at around 7.30 when our heating is still on. She's in a long sleeve bodysuit, sleepsuit, grobag and at the moment has a blanket loosely placed on top of her (which she tends to shrug off anyway) and so is lovely and warm when she goes to bed. Her room's about 18C.

however, she still wakes once or twice in the night and this morning her wee hands were freezing! the heating goes off at 10pm and then back on at 6am and her room cools down quite a lot by about 3am.

I don't want to put more blankets on when she goes to bed as she'd be too hot and anyway it's her arms and hands that are cold not her body, and she has her arms out of blanket/grobag. Any suggestions for how to keep her arms warm? Or is it bothering me more than her?

thanks.

Cardigan? Gloves? (I never bother with a grobag, cardigans are much better)

hi

i have similar situation but dd doesn't wake up thank goodness!

she has shortsleeve body suit, sleepsuit, 2.5 tog bag and last thing before i go to bed i cover her with a fleece blanket.

her room is around 18/19 degrees when the weather is like this.

last night i put her in a long sleeve t shirt as well and she was fine.

i have one fleecy sleepsuit and when she's in that i put her in a 1.5 tog bag on a normal night but i'd prob put her in a 2.5 tog bag if it were really chilly.

i find putting the blanket over her last thing works well, she's really asleep by then and tends not to move much the rest of the night.

hope this helps. personally i think a cardy is a bit bulky iyswim.

May try an extra long sleeve top or mittens as it's the arms which are chilly. she loves chewing on her mittens though so it might not be worth it if she ends up with soggy rather than cold fingers!!

babies' hands are always cold IME!

I think you need to feel their tummy or back of the neck to get a more realistic temperature

We had this problem with ds. I bought some sleepsuits which had fold back cuffs from Sainsburys but instead of folding them back I just left them and it seems to have worked.

We had this and now on VERY cold nights we use a tiny plug in heater . Its on a thermostat and just keeps the room on a gentle warm temp.
