Did your baby sleep better in their own room?

DS2 is a spectacularly shite sleeper. We're putting him in his own bedroom when he hits six months next week.

Obviously I'm holding this up as the thing that is going to completely revolutionise his sleep yeah right

What happened when you put your DC in their own room? Did they sleep better? I'm hoping for good stories here (obviously) but feel free to hit me with the negative ones too.

Oh yes much better.
And I did too.

Babies are so noisy

CurlsLDN · 27/06/2016 15:49

Yup, he wasn't disturbed by us snoring and rolling over so he slept better.

I couldn't hear him snuffling and shuffling so I got much better quality sleep

SexPond · 27/06/2016 15:49

Good stuff. Grin

Yes, we all did. Both babies went in their own rooms at 8 weeks.

Hopelass · 27/06/2016 15:58

Yes DS went in his own room at 5 months and slept better as did we not having to listen to his snuffly pig noises

elelfrance · 27/06/2016 16:01

Yep, both of mine slept much better when in their own rooms..now it may have been a combination of that and the fact that they were getting a bit bigger, eating better and so generally able to sleep longer, but we definitely noticed a difference when they went into their own rooms

lemoncakes · 27/06/2016 16:01

Yes we put DD in her own room at 8 weeks and we all slept so much better - no noisy grunts keeping me awake and DD didn't wake up every time we rolled over / DH snored! Much happier all round!

Grassgreendashhabi · 27/06/2016 16:06

Not only did baby sleep better but parents slept better

We became much happier as was not disturbed by the squeaks all night

Loulou2kent · 27/06/2016 16:07

We all slept better! 12 weeks here & it was like magic. He loves the dark & quiet! Goodluck!

Chinks123 · 27/06/2016 16:09

Yes yes and yes she slept better Grin we put her in her own room the day she turned 6 months and she has slept though the night ever since!

A) placemarking as we are away to do the same thing
B) OP; your username is the best I've ever seen on MN. Actually crying 😂

I was thinking this myself as my 4 month old DS is a very light sleeper, but wondering how him being in his own room will affect breastfeeding through the night? I'm worried I won't hear him stirring and miss his cues

Grassgreendashhabi · 27/06/2016 16:18

Caramel - this worked for me.. I would set alarm at midnight and at 3 and dream feed. After a few weeks I dropped midnight and just did 3am dream feed

After a few more weeks baby did not wake for feeds.

peaceloveandtwirlywoos · 27/06/2016 16:20

Yes! I lost it at 4.5 months and evicted him. We all slept much better.

BretonTop · 27/06/2016 16:23

Both parents and babies slept better. We moved them into their own room (nursery right next door/small house) at six weeks and never looked back.

CaramelPrincess · 27/06/2016 16:32

Aw that's fab grassgreen I'll give it a try myself then!

ElspethFlashman · 27/06/2016 16:34

No. Sad But I did! So - totally worth it.

cosmicglittergirl · 27/06/2016 16:34

Yes. Miles better. I can't bear the snuffling.

cosmicglittergirl · 27/06/2016 16:34

Oh, and we were waking her up too. So she started sleeping through a bit more often.

miaowmix · 27/06/2016 16:36

Yes slept through the night (dot of six months) and has done ever since (9 years). It was a game changer, plus coincided with stopping breastfeeding so all worked perfectly for us.

MangoIsTheNewApple · 27/06/2016 16:38

Yup! Both of mine woke up if I entered the room, let along turned on the light, tried to get changed or even rustled the duvet. For ages, I couldn't open the door of their room without waking them, so I relied on listening via the monitor. They both went into their own rooms before the six months that's recommended, because I got to the point where I was so desperate for sleep I had to try something.

Weirdly, they were both happy going down for the night in the cot way before they would nap in the cot in the daytime. The naps stayed sling-based for ages, but I was prepared to live with that if I was getting some decent sleep at night.

Nuttypops · 27/06/2016 17:04

Yes, we all also much better! She started sleeping through within a few days of moving into her own room. Before that she had been waking up 5 times a night and was very loud!

peaceloveandtwirlywoos · 27/06/2016 17:05

Oh god yes, forgot about having to get dressed in the dark and cough under the duvet.

Archedbrowse · 27/06/2016 17:20

Yes.

Good luck!

SexPond · 27/06/2016 17:27

Oh this is excellent. Proving my desperate theory right, thank you all!

I'll let you know how we get on.

At the moment he wakes if I so much as breathe too heavily so I'm hoping shutting him away somewhere will solve these issues and we can all get some sleep. It's a fucking nightmare at the moment. WineWineWine
