Waterproof bed sheets? can anyone help?

I wonder if anyone can help, and I'm sorry in advance if I'm going over something that has been said in another thread!

My ds is now 5 and a half, and has been in Drynites for about 8 months, and I've had enough of spending all this money on nothing as such. So to cut a long story short, I'm now spending a great deal of money on Pampers Bed mats, instead!!!!

We used to have a waterproof sheet, but I gave it away as it made him too sweaty, he gets very hot in bed, and having something to add to that is a nightmare.

So can anyone recommend a good quality waterproof mattress cover, or sheet, that is not all plastic and makes children sweaty.

I hope this all makes sense, and I look forward to hearing from you all.

We bought one that was from Alders that is rubber backed, but covered in toweling and this seems to be OK (and ds is a real sweatball!) It can also be washed and tumble dried.

I got one from Argos - waterproof fitted terry sheet - 80% cotton and 20% polyester, backed with 100% PVC. It costs £9.45.

We had the hot and sweaty problem too, and it solves that.

BUT it's not as practical as a plastic cover, as you can't just wipe it clean/dry - it needs to be washed .. so it is a pain if you have lots of accidents.

It's here Btw says handwash only, but I put ours in wm on a low/gentle wash, and it's OK.

I saw one in a verbaudet extra's catalogue that I wanted to get for my ds1 who's five and is nowhere near dry. This one was machine washable and dryer safe.

I knew I could rely on Mumsnet, it is such a long time since I've been on here though!

Thanks!

Have a look at this

I think I might have to get a couple.

Do NOT buy the one from Wilkinsons - it is NOT waterproof!!!!!!!

The White Co. do a "deluxe" mattress cover - waterproof bit sandwiched in between two layers of cotton flannel. Not sweaty but did pong of plastic for first few weeks (fine now). Since I got it there've been no more accidents, so can't say how well it would wash.

I use ones I bought from mothercare, they are the size of care mats, but are quilted cotten with a rubber backing, fully washable and don't cause sweating. My DS's are 5.5 and very rarely have an accident, only if ill or over tired, but I just leave them on all the time as, they are so comfortable.
They are about £15, and well worth it, they can also be tumble dried, and have never leeked, have used them since they were in a bed and before that with stepDD.

Thank you all, I think I will take a trip to Mothercare in the next couple of days and have a good feel!

Mumsnet, why don't I come here more often!

Thanks x

I got mine at John Lewis. It's waterproof, but has toweling on the upper side. It's a fitted sheet, but I put a regular fitted sheet over it. Ds is a very "hot" kid and we have no problems with sweatiness. I suppose if you have lots of accidents you will want to have two as you have to wash it after an accident.

La Redoute have lots - PVC backing with flannelette top, very comfortable, are about £13 for a 3' mattress. They also have "narrow bunk" (70cm) and "bunk" (80cm). Can wash at 90 and tumble dry. They do flat (with bits of elastic across the corners) and fitted, the flat ones are easier to put on.

Website - they're in Interieurs, under fitted sheets, the first ones are on p6 (I wish la redoute would do proper individual page URLs like other sites!) Look for "flat mattress cover". (You should be able to put that in the search box on the interieurs page but it doesn't appear to be working.)

They are excellent anyway (unlike the website!)

Janh · 28/05/2004 10:21

The la redoute ones are full-sized 90x190, ie cover whole single-bed mattress - the vertbaudet ones are 40x80, 60x120 and 70x140, except for the fleece one and that sounds a bit sweaty in itself!

Janh · 28/05/2004 10:26

Oh dear - I just went back for a browse through la redoute bedding and discovered everything was on a different page, dammit! So check out each page - you want flat, flannel, PVC backed. (Some are towelling, some are not PVC backed.)

(Or you could just go to Mothercare!!!)

Thanks for all your help, I've got one from Mothercare, already been washed and tumble dried, excellent! So thanks to everyone!
