Sheepskin - has anyone used it for new born to sleep on?

I've read some positive things about babies sleeping on sheepskin rugs - comfort/temp regulation/sleep better.
I'm thinking about using one for ds2 in moses basket and maybe in the cot as well. I will be swaddling the LO as well.
I'm planning to put a draw sheet under LO's head or maybe over whole thing to catch possets/nappy leakage etc.
Any issues/suggestions? Not really sure about it.

I used one with ds from about 6 weeks. Before we put it in the moses basket he wouldn't stay in it atall.

We used to put a muslin under his face to catch any sick/dribble etc. That than became his fave comforter as he was so used to it. ( the muslin)

We swaddled him too.
I still swaddle dd.

I didn't use one for dd as it was a bit of a pain in the end as whenever we went away we had to take the fleece with us. We would have though if she wasn't happy in her bascket but she was fine from the start.

He only stopped having it in his bed every night when he was about 3. Although he does have it now and again when he thinks of it .

His cousins did too btw. They love theirs and they are there comforters!!!

we used one underneath a fitted sheet.

I did think of that Geekgirrl when my ds was born but all the info I read said that it was most effective if the baby slept directly on it.

I suppose they would still feel some of the softness of it through a sheet though.

I think we would have needed an entire flock in that case - what with a permanent dribble of sick coming forth from ds, as well as leaky nappies etc.....

i used one for a short while then both dd's decided they preferred to sleep on their fronts (so therefore couldnt use it as i didnt want their face buried in it)

i then used it for them to lie and kick about on the floor, they used to fall asleep on it all the time

i used drawsheets too for when they were lying on it without nappies, etc

i think its great for temp regulation

yes used ours under a sheet
dd is 4 and still has hers
they do get quite dusty so beat regularly

Thanks ladies.

I think I'm going to use one under a sheet. We'll see how dribbly and sicky this little one is! They take an age to dry, so washing that regulary is n't practical for me.

DS just used it in the day to have a wriggle on, but this time I want to make every effort for LO to be really comfortable and therefore sleep as much as possible!

I hang mine in the airing cupboard and it dries in a day.

Or on really hot days I wash it first thing and hang it on the line. I used to put the pram one in as a replacement while it was wet.

When he was ill (sick) and I still do this now I cover the whole sheet with a large bath towel and leave the fleece out.
