Anyone tried the 'wake to sleep' method successfully with a toddler?

My dd for the last 2 months has been waking between 5 - 6 am she goes to bed about 7ish and sometimes takes at least 1/2 to go off to sleep, but no matter what time she drops off she still wakes same time, but usually even more tired than normal. I'm not bothered by it as she's very good at staying in her room and playing til I get her, but she's shattered by the afternoon and grumpy. If we go in the car she is almost asleep which she never used to do so I know she needs the extra. I don't know if it coincides with the fact that she now is dry thru the night and so sometimes wakes for a wee and can't get back to sleep. I thought I could try waking her at 4.30 for a wee and try and break the cycle???

Well if anyone's interested i tried it anyway, last night and night b4 and it worked in that she slept til nearly 7 first night and 8 I think this morning well that's when she woke us up, pretty good for nyd when you've got kids! Will do one more and see what happens after that.

That's brilliant, think I will try it. I had problems with DS1 until he was 4 and then overnight he started sleeping beautifully. DS2 is just about to go dry at night - a little late as he is autistic but he is still only 3 so not so bad. He won;t wee in his nighttime nappy though and is up anytime from 4.30am. Perhaps it would be worth me giving it a go. DD is waking all the time - she has separation anxiety atm so if I could get one of them sorted it would be excellent. Thanks for the tip.

Let me know how it goes xx

Well done DD!

Did it again last night she didn't do a wee but dry all night which she sometimes manages anyway, she slept til 7am and stayed in her room til nearly 8 - bless. DD2 slept til 8 too, bonus!
The biggest bonus tho is that last 2 days dd1 does seem to have been happier, much less tears and grumpiness so unless it's a coincidence it's due to the extra sleep. Tonight is crunch time I'll find out if the cycle is broken by not waking her at 4 am and we'll see what time she wakes tomorrow...

Gosh it's going really well, I find that with all of mine - not enough sleep = grumpy all day.

Well crunch time result in dd1 sleeping til 6 yesterday and today so not as bad as it was but could be better, maybe she needs some more fresh air.

Improving though, well done - stick at it a bit longer.

Yeah the grumpiness reeally frustrates me more than it should i think, last nihgt not so good well she was awake for an hour t 10 after a wee but still woke at 6 or earlier and you can tell already!!!!

Well at least they can't be shifted out of bed when they get older - light at the end of the tunnel.
