If your first was a bad sleeper...

....what was your second like? DD 14 mo has never been a great sleeper. Not truly terrible most of the time but equally there have been times that nearly broke me. I think we have had about 5 unbroken nights in 14 mo though we are down to one or two wakes unless illness or teething is involved. We are planning ttc and have recently had a spate of horrible nights with DD having a cough and teething with 4 canines at once. It has set me wondering. I know of course we are not guaranteed a good sleeper this time although frankly I feel that would be a fairer system! but was wondering what people's actual experiences were. I realise that this is not a great way of gathering a representative example and it wouldn't put me off having a second either way (assuming we are lucky enough to conceive) as really these years are the blink of an eye compared to a lifetime just a bit curious nosy.

DS didn't sleep til he was about 5 1/2*. DD slept for the first couple of weeks, but hasn't since.

*DS will be 5 1/2 in a couple of weeks. This is hope talking, not experience. I haven't slept in years now.

My first was a terrible sleeper, but the following 3 were brilliant sleepers, thank fuck Grin

Onto my 4th shocker (4.5 months). Although not as bad as DC3 (nearly 4) who still wakes in the night then comes and thrashes about in our bed all night.

Had a full night's sleep early last year - still remember how amazing that felt and how Envy I was that some people get to feel like that every single day.

Thanks for all the responses. I think I spend the whole time waiting for it to go wrong if we get a sleeper this time but will mentally prepare for some more sleepless years (auto-correct wanted to write tears, how appropriate).

Flowers and Brew oh and of course Cake for all the posters struggling with sleep right now. Was awake for an hour with DD last night. Just as well I didn't know at 4mo when it all started to go tits up that we would still be waking now as I would probably have had a breakdown! At least after these canines which are taking their sweet bloody time to break through we will have just 2 more pairs of teeth to go. Then we will just have illness and development as sleep saboteurs (resolutely refuses to think about the stage when they can get out of bed of their own accord).
