Bedside cot

Have you used a bedside cot which can be attached to the parents' bed? It looks like a really good option for having the baby right next to us, but not in our bed, so we'd be interested in people's experiences.

If you have used a one, how long did your baby sleep in it before transferring to a bigger cot on his/her own? The bedside cots I've seen online all look fairly small...

This particular one by Estilo Shop on ebay looks like a good deal and as if it would attach to the bed securely. Has anyone bought it - and, if so, what did you think?

We used the baby bay until about 6 months, got on really well with it.

We rented a bed nest with a Sleepyhead mattress inside for 4 months. Was great having the baby at the same level as the bed but wouldn't get it again. She started to roll really young and it wasn't really suitable.

We just removed one side off a full-sized normal cotbed (easily done with an allen key) and butted it up to our bed. Much more room to cuddle into and more longevity with a cotbed (or even just a normal cot, rather than a crib) - no growing out of it, it can be used through to aged 4 or 5.

We have the Snuzpod and I love it. It makes it very easy to settle the baby in the night/pop the dummy back in, as she is only an arms length away. DD is 7 months and on 91st centile for length and we only moved her into her cot this weekend.

We have a snuzpod, I love the idea of it but DS hates it (he also hates the moses basket, the bouncer and the car seat). We ended up co-sleeping as he will only sleep if being held or if he's touching me, so I feed him to sleep lying down and he stays sleeping with his face pressed up against my boob until next feed!

I had the snuz pod but me and baby hated it - mattress is so thin and rock hard, it is hard to zip up therefore waking baby when trying to and the sides are made of q canvas material that doesn't seem very cosy

We did the same as FATE. Full size cot with one side off. Sleepyhead in it for the first 8 months so she wasn't lost in it!
No extra cost. No worries :)

We have a snuzpod, I love it but the baby hates it so currently it's a very expensive bed guard/bedside table. I would try using it again with the next baby but with a sleepyhead from the outset.

Also have the snuzpod with sleepyhead inside... my 4 week old hates it and has slept on my chest every single night.
I'm gutted! Love snuggling him but after a c-sec it's really uncomfortable.... and so far a waste of £300 worth of stuff :(

Cot with the side off up to the edge of the bed, Sleepyhead inside.

MYA2016 - my sleepyhead got slung across the room in despair quite often when DS was that age, and our bedside crib was just used for storage of spare blankets. But eventually DS took to them and we got some good use out of them.

Am sure you'll get there, four weeks is still tiny!

We have the chicco next to me, baby did sleep on me for the first few weeks and I was a bit worried about the waste of money! But at just 12 weeks old he's been in it for the past 2 weeks and I'm very happy with it. He's napping in it right now!

We have the snuzpod too as there's not enough room for a full sized cot next to our bed. Dd wasn't too keen when she was tiny and we co slept for the first few weeks -snuzpod very handy for storing the iPad, kindle extra pillows etc that I needed in the first few weeks! - she's quite happy in it now and it's really handy getting her in and out for night feeds as there's no getting out of bed or need to turn a light on. The crib part comes off and we have used it downstairs a few times too.

We rented a Bednest. Baby took to it really well from the start and it proved very convenient for us. Standard rental is 6 months but we had to stop at 5 as he was rolling over by then.

Great to hear about your varied experiences (though sorry to those whose babies didn't take to their respective beds/cots).

And brilliant idea to just attach a regular-sized cot to the bed - I'll need to get the measuring tape out to see if we could fit one in!
