Why can't my kids stay in their beds a bit longer???

They are 5 and 8 and every morning they can't wait to get up, 5 yr old at 6am and 8 at 7.30, now there is no school today, why the hell can't they lie in? I have to get up with the 5 yr old or he'll wake the whole house up. My house is tiny and the walls are paper thin, doesn't take much noise to wake us all up.

I'm bloody knackered, and the boys will be crabbit pigs today as they'll be knackered too. Ask then to stay in bed every morning and nothing, trust me NOTHING WORKS!!

This morning my 5yo asked for his own alarm clock, as he didn't wake until 7.30 - "Mummy it's so late, i should be up at seven". Don't think Santa will be fulfilling that request somehow

santasweetdreamer · 17/12/2006 18:52

definately not!!

6 year old doesn't believe in sleeping past 5.30am-currently having homeopathic treatment on NHS as it worked a bit when paying privately, but couldn't afford to keep paying!
He has never slept in -never ever!!!!
his younger brother likes to sleep-which is hell when we are away and they share a room

busybusymum · 18/12/2006 23:12

mine wake up earlier on Non-school days they just dont understand the concept of a lie-in.

Nemoinapeartree · 18/12/2006 23:13

similair problem here but Ds is 3yrs old and loves to get up at 5-5.30am.
Have tried keeping him up later etc but he just doesnt sleep. He goes to bed at 7pm but wakes at 5 everyday and doesnt sleep in the day.

Nemoinapeartree · 18/12/2006 23:14

meant to add that DD[12mths] sleeps from 6.30pm till at least 8am...so its anightmare to be up with the 3yr old

Jossiejump · 18/12/2006 23:15

know exactly how you feel Nemo-so why are we both up this late?!!!

Nemoinapeartree · 18/12/2006 23:43

i always had a rule - bedroom only until 7 o'clock.

if i was disobeyed i shouted.

7 it was then.

gingernut · 19/12/2006 00:26

We have similar rule to custardo, ds1 (5) is not supposed to get up before 7. He usually goes for a wee before then though, often at about 6, but these days he often goes back to his room to play quietly till 7 so I go back to sleep. Shouting at him didn't work though, we are using a star chart (he gets stars for other things too, and has been promised a special outing when the chart is full). He has a clock with vehicles on it so he knows when it's 7 am (when the big hand points to a helicopter and the little hand points to a bulldozer IYSWIM!).

My DD 7ys has to be dragged out of bed at 8am, goes to bed about 9pm so we are trying to bring this forward for her. DS goes about 9pm and is up before me.

Go against your principles and train then to switch on TV and watch Cbeebies if mummy is not yet concious . This has kept me fairly sane over the years.
