Ds is nearly 8 months

Sleep routine goes something like this-
up 7.30am
nap 10am
nap 1.30pm
bed 7pm, woke at 10 for bf

nap can be anything from 30 min to 2 hour.

He has now started screaming for anything up to an hour when put to bed awake, even with routines stuck to to the letter, we have tried sitting by his cot, going in with longer gaps, but nothing seems to work.

The same goes for if he wakes in the night, he wants to bf back to sleep, and will scream for over an hour.

I have not fed him in the night before 4.30am for over a month, but still the screaming.

I am pg with our second, and worn out from been woken up ever night.

And to top it off, next door who have had a problem with us since ds was born have now started banging on the wall if he cries.

Has he been going to bed awake before, or do you have to put him down asleep?

Scootergirl · 16/12/2006 20:07

Have you heard of the Baby Whisperer's pick up put down thing? You basically comfort them when they cry then put them back down before they fall back to sleep. Obviously they then cry again and you pick them up again but the idea is apparently they give up before you do...
As for your neighbours, give them the finger through the wall

littlepiggie · 16/12/2006 20:19

would go down awake as long as we stuck to the routine, and got to the point where shh night night time for sleep, which we say EVERY time he is put in his cot was enough.

He is very very stubbon, so dont think pupd would work, he looks round the room, even though its dark when picked up.

Is he teething or anything? Have you tried the chamomile granules or (whispering...) Medised?

santasbaby · 16/12/2006 20:23

My dd went through something similar at about the same age - used to wake in the night and scream where before she used to settle herself. Sounds like you need to be tough and let him cry if you're up to it. It is hard to follow the controlled crying plan, but it worked within days for us. Dd cried for over an hour at first , but was settling herself by the end of the week.

Being pg you need all the rest you can get!

Oh, and ignore the neighbours!

onzephyrstdayofchristmas · 16/12/2006 20:24

Has he got a nightlight/musical thing in his cot? My dd is 8 months as well and is being a real pain with sleep/waking in the night etc just now. Does he have any teeth coming through? Does he have separation anxiety when you are around during the day? Is he a lot hungrier than usual? That seems to be dd's problem, she's waking for more milk so I'm feeding her lots more finger food in the day. She has a musical light thing in her cot which seems to calm her down and give her something to look at until she falls asleep...

I always did sleep pretty much on demand except bed time (bewteen 7 and 8pm). Maybe his nap times are changing as they do frequently for my ds. He goes down fine on is own, whenever he is tired (catching the early signs of tiredness). Does your ds seem tired when he is being put in cot?

littlepiggie · 16/12/2006 20:30

has a musical light up thing, will send dh for new bateries when he finishes work.
tried medised if i think his teeth are bothering him, tried giving water, cc (worked for a while but has gone back, now wont work at all)

The chamomile powders worked well on DS when he's doing the same and I don't feel bad about giving them even if I don't think he's actually teething because it's herbal.

littlepiggie · 16/12/2006 20:33

yes, i followed his lead for naps, they change every few weeks and get a bit later, did have 3 a day.

teething powder does nothing for him, teething gel does, but i think he just likes the feeling.

Hi little piggie. Poor you. you must be so tired being pregnant too. A

nd your neighbours - selfish gits - what do they expect you to do with your baby??? I dont know how bad things hav got between you but is it worth writing them a little note with a bar of choccy apologising for noise but saying your LO is teething. I know they dont deserve it but might ease the stress on you a little. Sorry I dont know what to suggest on the sleep front.

Good luck x
