On hour 7. DD Won't settle, headbutting me and going mental if she unlatches herself. Nearly doses off but in seconds is awake talking away. Currently having a gurgle at my dress hanging on the wardrobe.

I'm on day 2 of swollen glands and fever and so desperate for sleep. HelpSad

Try the discovery murder channel. The drony commentary and the non changing light of the documentary could help. Also, at 8 weeks, is she getting enough from you? My first ds was 4weeks early and never stimulated enough flow, i switched to bottles when he was a month. My second, i mix fed. Just to make sure.

Or she is just having a cluster feed moment. That's never fun, but it goes away soon.

Small comfort :)

It's hard. I remember dd1 feeding for days about 24 straight when she was about 6 weeks. I nearly gave up then! It stopped eventually but moved to mix feeding at 8 weeks and dh gave her a bed time bottle which meant l could get some sleep before she woke for her usual night time marathon sessions that lasted until she was 12 weeks old.

DangerMouth · 23/12/2015 12:23

Sorry that should say 24 hours. 24 days would have killed me. Seriously.

SouthernComforter · 23/12/2015 13:02

Tell me about it. 6wo sleeps well in the day but is either alert or windy at night. Then my 2yo is awake at some ungodly hour (5.20 today). Surviving on sugar and cappuccino at the mo. Just try to get out if you can. Otherwise the walls close in on you. Plus the pram/walking motion might send her to sleep xx

MrsA2015 · 23/12/2015 14:39

Thing is, when she's awake being cute and giggly and I feel so guilty getting frustrated at herSad she's EBF at the moment and supply is good, getting chubby and filling nappies so I don't think it's hunger. Just likes to be awake and upright ! What's the ruling on "keeping them awake" to sleep longer at night?

Trying to keep an 8 week old will hinder, not help. Indeed trying limit sleep in an 8 month old isn't helpful, let alone 8 weeks.

Good sleep promotes poor sleep. Bad sleep promotes worse sleep so thus will be self perpetuating until you sort it.

Awake time between daytime NSA at 8 weeks old, about 60 minutes I'd say. Much less in the night.

Most sleep issues in the fourth trimester are feeding related.

What are you currently doing to get baby to sleep?

FATEdestiny · 23/12/2015 15:19

NSA = naps

FATEdestiny · 23/12/2015 15:21

Good sleep promotes better sleep, poor sleep promotes worse sleep - it should have said.

Sorry, hate typing on my phone

DangerMouth · 23/12/2015 16:09

Definitely don't try to keep her up. Dd2 has to cry it out in my arms if l miss her sleep cues (this can be her wriggling, head butting which is actually turning into my arms). Yesterday was a bit of a disaster as dd1 needed a bit of attention and last night putting dd2 was horrendous.

Needless to say I've been super vigilant today!

MrsA2015 · 24/12/2015 03:08

At the moment she goes off to sleep after a feed, I notice when she's overtired if she's been awake for too or has had her sleep prevented or interrupted by something DH wanting to kiss her then she can't settle and doesn't like to feed to settle. I've resorted to shining a light on a sparkly dress which she stares at peacefully till drifting off! If it works I guess?

If you have swollen glands and fever then I assume she is also coming down with something? Keep at it OP and get DH to give you a break in the day so you can get a stretch of sleep.
