why won't she sleep in the basket?

She's shattered and she falls asleep in my arms as soon as I hold her but as soon as I put her in the Moses basket she wakes and cries (rapidly turning into shrieks) then we go from the top again - feed, wind, rock, sleep...move to basket... Cry!

DD is 6 weeks old - shouldn't she be getting better at sleep not worse? How are you getting your DCs to sleep in basket and not on you? Please help - very tired and upset as feel like I'm failing :-(

Mine is also nearly 6 weeks and I've given up on the Moses basket. I simply think he likes to be close and that he doesn't really like sleeping on his back, esp as he's difficult to wind.

It's been mentioned but a friend loaned us a sleepyhead and it's been amazing for us. It's on our bed and husband and I do one shift each with him in the bed, swapping with going to the spare room. Baby von be difficult to settle and I sometimes lay him on his side. If it's much after 5am I sometimes just doze with him on my chest - lovely and close but not great for a hood sleep!

Anyway, l think hating the Moses basket seems quite usual. I'd try swaddling or go with it and try some sort of sleep pod. My husband can also settle baby on the sleepyhead - he puts baby in it, picks the whole thing up and bounces gently on the birth ball. Good luck x

Ps don't worry about starting bad habits at 6 weeks. There's loads of time to get them used to a cot. Just enjoy feeling close to them.

I have hardly known any babies to actually sleep in Moses baskets! We have a chicco next2me which has been big enough for DD until now (over six months). Can't recommend it highly enough. Great to help with co-sleeping. When asleep we would just slide her into the crib. I've also had friends use sleepyheads with huge success. I'd recommend both.

Watching with interest. DD2 is 2 weeks old and a nightmare trying to settle to sleep. Some nights we have no problems transferring her to the basket at all. But 3 out of the last 4 nights have been horrendous with her not properly settling until 3.30-4 in the morning (this morning it was 6am Sad). Dummy worked amazingly 2 nights ago but was fuck all use last night.

DD1 would always pass out after a bottle but DD2 just lies there with eyes wide open, fidgeting.

Dd would not settle in her cosleeping crib to begin with but it was handy while weco slept as I felt safe that she couldn't fall out of the bed and it was a handy place to store cushions, the iPad and kindle for sleepless nights
She's 5 weeks now and for the last 5 nights she's been sleeping in a phil and teds cocoon in the snuzpod which so far has worked. She's also been in a swaddle bag (grosnug) as I struggled to swaddle her 'normally'

Ds is 2 months and we are co-sleeping (in the exact manner evilgiraffe describes). I have the cot set up as a co sleeper, but I've never managed to transfer him into it-as soon as he realises that he's not next to me he wakes up. It's perfectly normal for small babies to want the security of their parents close by at night.
