Mid-height cabin bed - too early for 2yr old DD?

I am constantly trying to find ways to create space in my ever-increasing shrinking home. My dd sleeps in a cot and it is time we move her to a proper bed. Instead of a toddler bed, I wonder if a mid-height cabin style bed (where her stuff can be stored underneath) might be the answer to all my space problems?
My dd is very agile and has attemped scarier feats. Also, I think with constant reminders and warnings, she will learn that jumping off the bed isn't a good idea.
Any advice would be most appreciated!

Oh, do let me know how it went. Also, which furniture shop is that? If its close to me, I may visit it.

Sorry! I'd made my comment about Flexa being rubbish and then not returned to the thread for a couple of days...hmmmm, where to begin?

Bed arrived much later than expected and when it did arrive there were a lot of problems with it. We had bought some flexa drawers to go under the bed and they had put in only right hand runners, but no left hand runners which meant we spent about 3 hours trying to work out what we had done wrong before realising that the fault was not with us. When I contacted Flexa they said that they had had that problem reported a number of times and would send me a special tool out to flip them over. The bed fits together poorly and some bits of the wood were chipped. The whole thing creaks and generaly feels unstable. The dark blue Flexa mattress we bought with it is appalling - we put a normal white sheet on it and after a couple of nights found that in many places the sheet had been dyed blue - where ds dribbles or sweats the colour of the mattress runs onto the bedding - the only way around this is a waterproof mattress cover - fine for now, but he won't want this when he's older! As furniture it looks lovely, but my general feeling is that the service is poor, when I've rung and spoken to people not once has someone apologised, and that our particular batch seems to be a 'fridy afternoon' lot and really badly made and packed...

Apologies for any poor spelling - don't usually mumsnet in the day and so am feeling guilty as ds is sat harumping waiting for me to play with him.

Has no one else experienced any similar problems with Flexa?

Greenday we got one of these from argos for DS in may/june when he was 2.5yrs. He loves it and we have never had any problems at all. His has the chest of drawers under and a bookcase which we turned to the side so he has a den and also storage space behind the chest of drawers.

We have the same blue mattress on ours with a white sheet on top and ds sweats like mad and we have not had the dye come off. Maybe you really did just get a bad one? We also found it straight forward to put together. Though we are experts on Ikea flat pack so maybe that is why! It does creak a bit at the moment, but dh thinks we just need to tighten the screws after a few yes of use.

We also had the blue mattress with no problems in almost 5 years. It is the interior sprung one which I think they've changed now.

greenday ... whereabouts are you? the shop is in london colney between potters bar and st albans. i will let you know what it is like after the weekend if I get there. Are you looking for the mid height sleeper on its own or any other combination?

Milliways · 14/12/2006 22:05

We bought a Flexa system when DS moved out of his cot (aged 2) and he is still in it aged 11 - going strong. It's fab!

When we moved the shop fitters came & dismantled & reassemble it for us as well!! £30 cash in hand. They told us about this when first delivered it for us.

At least it takes a standard size matress (unlike Stompa) so that saves money. I would recommend Flexa to anyone.
