After 12 weeks of horrendous sleep, my dd spontaneously began sleeping through the night 2 weeks ago. It was glorious! Just as I was starting to get used to it, she figured out how to roll. She has enjoyed rolling onto her side (always the same way) for a while now and always sleeps curled up on that side, after being put down on her back. Well, now she has started going all the way over onto her front, only she hates being on her front (finds tummy time a horrible ordeal) so then she calls for me to come and rescue her. Last night this happened about 5 times. She's down for a nap now and has rolled onto her front. She keeps waking up and whimpering about it then falling asleep again!

Is this something that babies just do when they learn to roll? Should I keep moving her or should I let her work out how to get back onto her back/ go all the way over? It's awful listening to her get upset but I'm wondering if I'm making it worse by coming to her rescue?

Also, I have been told not to put her down on her front. Does that mean I should roll her over if she falls asleep that way herself?

Thanks to anyone with advice!

Ok its 6 years ago but I got a foam sleep barrier thing - it was a baby specific one like 2 triangles . ( cotton / breathable ) Dd was a roller and I used to find her wedged up against the cot bars. It did help as you could widen it so she could roll but not over completley.

Thanks Rose, I'll look into that. Yes she does move around the cot until she hits the sides. Earlier I found her asleep on her front with one leg between the cot bars! I moved her because I was worried she could hurt herself trying to get out of that one.

try rooling up towels and putting them under the sheet far enough so it stops her going all the way over but with room to move a little and still get on her side.
We did this with DD1 and expect we will with DD2 as she is 15 wks and can now roll back to front!

Youlemming, that is a great idea thank you. I'll try that. I was up every 2 hours in the night with her last night. Even rolling her back onto her back, she would cry, then try and get on her front again, then cry. It is so weird and so frustrating! She's very restless today too and I am so tired!

I think they just grow out of this, my ds did it for ages and it stopped when he was maybe about 5-6m but was replaced by him crawling up the cot Sad
