Lying flat...

Has anyone had a baby who won't/can't sleep flat? This happened for first two months with first child and is now apparently happening with no 2, a week and a half old....WHY????? Both regurgitate when flat, no matter how long they've been held for. Have to say, oldest was cured when her aunt babysat and, not knowing about her sleeping in the car seat, popped her into her cot...and after that she slept beautifully....is it psychological on my part?!

DOn't want you to think that no one is reading your post, but I haven't got a clue how to answer this.... How much do they regurgitate and where and how do they sleep then ???

Is it just sleeping? Or lying flat in general? My baby hated lying flat eventually diagnosed as suffering from reflux and has been given gaviscon. This might also explain the regurgitation. Ask your doctor if you've not already. We have placed a folded up towel under her mattress to raise her head slightly or some people raise one end of the crib if that helps.

My ds wouldn't sleep flat for the first few months, we found he would sleep in a bouncy chair during the day, and in a cot that was tilted by placing two of the legs on bricks. If I put him on the play-gym his milk would trickle out of his mouth even if he hadn't fed for a while. At the time I assumed all babies did this, but later on, found out that it was probably reflux.
Somewhere on mumsnet someone defines reflux as the baby sicking up milk without burping whereas normally babies burp and then sick up (possett). We had called ds the possett-monster for a couple of months before the penny dropped!
If you try tilting the cot make sure you tilt the whole thing so that the mattress isn't bent IYKWIM. If it is reflux the baby can just 'grow out of it' like my ds.

Thanks very much for your messages...will check with doctor as it does sound like reflux - baby hasn't been in the 'gym' yet, but dd always dribbled milk whilst there.....and thanks Pupuce, was beginning to get paranoid....
