For the past two weeks, my 12 month old has been waking for between one and two hours at least once a night. He's never been a great sleeper (he's slept through the night about five times total) but it's always been pretty easy to resettle him until recently. He's getting his molars at the moment. Please tell me this will miraculously resolve itself once they've come through and I can get a half decent night's sleep again. Please.

How are you going now? 12 months is a massive sleep regression x

Had a couple of better nights but still probably every other one involves a wake up of at least an hour. And he was up at 5:30am this morning! So sleepy...

What are naps like during the day? Is there a chance he could be overtired if not getting enough sleep over 24 hr period?

They're sporadic at the moment. I used to feed him to sleep (which we were both fine with) and put him down in his cot, where he'd sleep for 1.5-3 hours. He went down to one nap a while ago. If I'm working, he's been napping in his pram or his carrier with his dad or grandparents but he doesn't get quite as long as he used to so it might be that. Then again, when he has had a longer sleep it doesn't seem to have made much difference!

Sounds like it really could be overtiredness. I know mine were still napping twice a day at 12 months. They didn't switch to 1 nap until around 15 months.

Also not sure if he is able to self settle from your posts? If not the overtiredness and the inability to self settle could be causing the wakefulness at night.

What time is bedtime and usual wake up time?

I can't get him to take two naps any more - believe me, I've tried! It only happens nowadays if he has a really brief sleep in his car seat in the morning. He doesn't tend to want to go down until 10:30-11am then if he has a decent stretch he is happy until bedtime.

He normally has his bath at 7pm and is asleep between 7:30pm and 8pm. Waking up is variable but more often than not it's some time between 6:30am and 7am. Can be 5am or 9am though, just depends on something I don't understand yet!

Yeah...self settling doesn't really happen Blush I won't do leaving to cry so it's the price I pay I guess. He does sleep long stretches (6-8 hours on a normal night but has been known to go 12 hours) so he can get himself through sleep cycles and I have heard him go back after a little whinge or disturbance but putting him down from wide awake is a no go!

I don't mind resettling him in the night if he needs/wants me to be there - it's just when it gets into hours rather than minutes that it gets incredibly frustrating!
