Sleep training for naps but not at night?!

It's 1pm, and I'm sat at the top of the stairs listening to DD singing and chattering and crawling around her cot. Her eyes are red, she is pausing every so often to yawn....and yet she doesn't think it's time for a nap. If she doesn't have a nap after lunch, there is no way she will make it until bedtime (she's 6 months old). Now, what is very strange about this situation, is that when it comes to bed time, she goes down without a fight and sleeps for 7/8 hour stretches without waking for a feed or anything. It's just nap times! While she is singing and chatting to herself, I will go in every five minutes or so, pop her dummy in and settle her then leave. Within seconds the singing starts again. This can go on for an hour or more until she gives up the ghost and goes to sleep! Anyone else have to sleep train for naps but not at bedtime?! Seems very weird to me!

We always found naps harder, I had to use the buggy to get them to sleep. My logic was that naps didn't matter sonmuchas they weren't going to be for ever, so I just got used to a ten minute walk every lunchtime.

Night sleep is different to day sleep. The 'drive' to sleep at night is a lot stronger as you have tiredness and the circadian rhythm working together. Day sleep it's just tiredness. Nap training is way harder as a result.

I think I will have to sleep train eventually as DS will only nap on people (usually me though) not in his cot, but bizarrely at night he will sleep in his cot for 7 hours straight! He is only 4 months so can't really sleep train yet but just wanted to comment that you're not alone with bizarre daytime habits!

Thanks for the replies - it's so strange because she fights it so much, but she's now been asleep for an hour Hmm so obviously she was tired! She doesn't cry either, she just sings and chatters away for ages.
