Anuone else had a long-term sleep dodger? What age did they start having decent stretches?
My ds is 14 months & we rarely get any more than one 3 hour stretch a night and that's usually 7-10. I have a 3 year old dd too who just gets shoved in front of DVDs after nursery as I'm beyond exhausted.
I've given up looking for solutions because I can't take the hope/disappointment of another one not working so I wanted when your little ones passed the worst? And what you did to cope with the long term sleep deprivation?
TIA Sad

Been up with my 17 month old for the last 1.5 hours. I do try Co sleeping, but there is very little sleep for me. He thrashes and climbs and sticks his fingers up my nose.

We have had patches of better sleep, but across three kids and pregnancies, I last got more than a couple of months of good sleep back in early 2009.

Can I leave him out for the bin men ?

Babbafish · 15/10/2015 01:31

My sleep dodger is 6!!!!! Has severe autism .... This is his morning! I'll wake DH at 6 and sleep till 7:30.
You do get used to it!!!
He has 2 different sedatives to sleep... He just doesn't need sleep!!!

Libraries Grin YY to binmen. Poor wee toots, we adore them really.

It seems to go like that doesn't it, one good night, a few poor nights, some better nights and misplaced hope then utter hellish night....

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 15/10/2015 07:25

Co-sleeping doesn't work for us, she is too excited to be in our bed and doesn't sleep. I wish it did. At the moment we have absolutely no solution.

Pinkpowderpuff · 15/10/2015 07:33

I was thinking of putting mine on eBay..... Grin
I think my toddler is trying to kill me with sleep deprivation by night and tantrums and clinginess by day. I'm not sure I will pull through, he is so winning right now.

TheABC · 15/10/2015 07:33

It's better than it was but we are still getting up 3+ times a night. I am pregnant again so it will be sod's law that he will sleep through as soon as the other arrives. I am looking forward to sleeping again in 2020.

Coffee and sympathy to all zombie ladies out there. Hope you get some use out of those beds.

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 15/10/2015 08:30

TheABC if you're lucky yours will start sleeping through when the other arrives. Mine hasn't! Which means double the wake ups. 9 last night between the 2 of them!

Well. I just had a call with a 'gentle' sleep expert as a last ditch attempt to resolve any issues, then if this doesn't work, it's just clinging on by my fingernails until we see the light at the end of the tunnel. She gave a very personalised plan and has given me something very dangerous......hope....Shock
Let's see how we get on tonight!!!!
Good luck & chin up to everyone with a sleep dodger. I'm sure an old woman in Waitrose once told me it's the intelligent ones that don't sleep
(She might have been a sleep deprived mirage though).

Ooooh, I love a plan, gotta have a plan. I think a plan gives you the strength to try. Both times we've sleep trained we had a plan and it makes me calmer in the face of crying/screaming/continued standing up/desperate sobbing etc

Good luck OP, let us know Smile

How did you get on last night unexpectedly? I just came on to share our woes with 12 month old twins sleep Dodgers and found your post. I ended up co sleeping from 11.30 last night till we got up this morning with Dd and my poor husband has been up since 4.30 with DS who finally fell asleep on the sofa with him at 6.30..... It's their birthday today, the big 1..... Is this when the magic switch is supposed to flip and we all get a decent nights sleep????????!!!!

UnexpectedSingleMum · 16/10/2015 14:18

Well....it was kind of teeny progress. Our sleep crutch is his mobile so the first thing was to ditch it (it goes on every time he wakes up and he's usually asleep by the time it finishes) and to shush / sing / soothe with voice (sing?!? At 1/2/3am....Erm no thanks). The theory being he was waking & expecting to hear the mobile when moving between sleep cycles.
So it worked in terms of getting him back to sleep by shushing & not using the mobile but he still woke every 60-90 mins and every 20 from 5am.
I'll stick with it & keep you posted !!!
I'm just pleased the shushing worked & it was very brief.
veda gulp sleep dodging twins?!?!? One, 18 months, two, three - we'll cling onto anything as a zombie Mum Wink
Hope they have a fabulous 1 st birthday & hope everyone else gets a wee rest this weekend.
