Safety of the NCT BEDNEST

Hi there,

I have asked NCT whether the NCT Bednest is safe and they are refusing to answer the question! I have been on their website and searched for the cot and it is like it never existed! Weird.

If anyone else can ask NCT this question, can you let me know what their response is? Thanks.

It isn't made by NCT, it is made by a different company who are just called Bednest. I believe that the NCT stopped selling them after a very sad accident earlier this year, but they are still being manufactured and you can still buy them direct from Bednest. They are safe when used according to the instructions but why not contact the makers for more info. If you google them their site should come up. We rented one and it was great for us, we'd definitely do so again.

I doubt they'll be able to say 'it's safe' because that depends on how it is used, but as long as you follow safe sleep guidelines as well as the instructions it should be fine. The sad case where a baby died was due to the parents tilting it too much (against the instructions) and putting the side down half way, again it tells you not to do this in the instructions.

Thank you for your replies.

The one my friend has is a "NCT Bednest" - there is a label on the box and the cot saying this. I have seen a video which makes it clear that this is an NCT Branded product.

I don't know who Bednest are and so wanted NCT to answer my question.

I want to know whether the cot is safe and passes the safety law. I have asked NCT and they are refusing to answer this question. This is VERY worrying. If either of you can ask NCT this question and let me know the answer that would be great because I am not getting a response.

I just noticed at 1.00 of the video link - NCT are showing the cot being used with the half-fold whilst the mother is asleep? How can that be against the instructions!

I am confused?

I imagine that the full case of the baby who died has not been through the whole investigation yet which might be why they dont have a definitive statement. An out of date video on YouTube is not the best source of info.
Really it's up to you to decide. I've only heard of one incident in all the years they've been sold and used. I had one and if use it again.

Here's the information about the case www.madeformums.com/news-and-gossip/bednest-nct-stops-selling-bedside-crib-following-death-of-7-week-old-baby/37770.html

It was all down to not following the instructions. Agree with museumum thats it boils down to your own judgement.

You could look at alternatives like the chicco next to me or snuzpod but they're all much of a muchness.

Hi fluffikins,

I have been on Bednest's Facebook page and all of the pictures of the cot are the same one's in the video link I posted. There is also the one with the half-way fold down and the lady asleep again?

I would be very surprised if this is the wrong way to use the cot if both NCT and Bednest are advertising the cot to be used in this way?

Any ideas?

Thanks museumum.

The reason why I want NCT to answer my question is because I am not an expert and so don't have any meaningful judgment.

I didn't realise that asking the question of whether the cot is safe to use and complies with the safety law would lead to a debate! Surely NCT can give a straightforward answer?

I should also ask if you know whether the instructions are correct? I just want to be sure and NCT are not answering the question! Doesn't this worry anyone?
