Does anyone have a memory foam matress?

And what do you think of it? Worth the money? I had a sample sent from Tempur and it's just what I want but the cheaper version my sister has is so bound (like a normal matress is) it's hardly got what I'd call a memory...any info appreciated.

Hi, I bought a memory- foam matress topper, I don't know the make , but I really love it and it makes such a differene to the comy rating of my bed! I'm not sure you need to splash out on a tempur one, they cost a fortune

bramblina · 28/11/2006 20:24

Yes they do and no I couldn't! Where did you get yours from? So a topper is sufficient?

Yes, I think it is enough, it's comfy for me anyway. They sell toppers on sites like this but you could have a look around

Mattress topper is great - we got ours from Costco

Bought a slumberland one 6 months ago - miracoil mattress underneath with memory foam topping.
Found a total contrast to previous (utterly knackered) mattress and took a couple of weeks for it to grow on me. Dh loved it from the start. The warmer it is the more it moulds to your body shape - so doesn't feel that luxurious when you first climb in, but come morning you don't want to get out! Bought ours from Argos who were very good delivery-wise - and very clear about what you were getting. Tried a bed shop first, but found they were (deliberately ?) vague about the differences you were getting for your money with each price-hike.
Did find, though, that despite airing it all day on the first day it STANK! - and I could still smell the rubber until about 2 weeks later (but could be pregnancy nose for you).

got our memory foam mattress from topsleep.co.uk, worth a look, not as pricey as some mentioned here and I think worth it, definatley, if only could use it more often....

sweetkitty · 28/11/2006 22:56

me - it's great but after our old saggy mattress and broken bed straw would be great.

BrummieMomInMerthyr · 28/11/2006 22:56

we got ours from bedintheclouds.co.uk based just outside cardiff but think they deliver nationwide. it was about £600 and worth every penny, really supportive for my back which is knackered!!

flutterbee · 28/11/2006 22:58

YUK a great big sponge soaking up all that sweat and other body fluids.

My brother slept on one once and said he woke up in the middle of the night feeling hot sweaty and disguting almost being eaten by the matteress and when he rolled over it was like rolling onto a brick.

Sorry, I don't have a mattress but I do have a tempur pillow and I love it. DH loves it too, so I bought him an Ikea version but it's just not the same (harder and not as comfy). I used to think I wouldn't like the memory foam mattress but now that I've got the pillow, I've changed my mind! But we can't afford it, so I'll just have to wait for that lottery win!

SueW · 28/11/2006 23:02

Someone I know has one and has complained of the sweat factor too. Comfortable to go to sleep on but hideous when you wake up sodden in the night, he said.

brimfull · 28/11/2006 23:03

I just sold our tempur mattress on ebay.couldn't believe I got £370 for it and it was 5 yrs old.
Dh thought it was the reason his back was sore,so we bought a normal sprung mattress with a little bit of memory foam on the top.It is softer and springier than the tempur .Don't think it was the mattress but he'll not admit that now.
The tempur was hot in the summer but I liked it.

BROWNY · 28/11/2006 23:03

We bought ours from Costco too, think it was roughly £110 for a kingsize, so really cheap. I did think that it made us quite hot in the summer months. We've also got a feather matress topper from QVC (was a today's special value so we thought we'd try that out too) so in the summer we put the feather matress topper on top of the memory foam one and I just don't want to get out of bed..... so comfy... in fact, think I'll go up now .

kittyschristmascrackers · 28/11/2006 23:07

I've never had a prob with getting hot and sweaty at night, should have words with dp about that !!

forestfern · 08/01/2007 22:29

Yes. I have a disc prolapse. Showed up after childbirth - no probs before, or during pregnancy. I have a memory foam mattress from IKEA - maybe medium range, cant remember. Not the thinnest though. It is great, not too hot, not too expensive - like Tempura! - and works very well - much better than a regualr Slumberland.
