Our dd has always been a good sleeper, going all night. But fell into the habit 2 months ago by giving her juice when she started waking in the night. She was only waking the once which was ok. But this last week has been a nightmare she goes to bed at about 7:30pm. And at around 11:30 she is waking and not going back off tried several times leaving her, left her crying one night for 1hr30mins and she finally went off, but last night was horrendous she woke at 1:30am and couldn't get her to sleep, in the end partner took over at 3am as I was becoming very upset, I'm 24 weeks pregnant so hormones all over the place. Tonight I plan on checking her once when she wakes making sure she's ok, check nappy ect; and then let her cry it out. I just worry how long I can leave her to just cry. My childminder says to leave her as long as it takes for her to fall asleep! But can I really lay there for hours listening to her cry :( it's not constant it's 15 mins of crying 5/10mins of quiet repeatedly.im not sure what I'm asking just for someone to say I'm doing the right thing I guess

What's her nap schedule?

I wouldn't leave her to cry it out. I would go in if the crying doesn't subside after a few minutes, resettle and then leave the room. Then repeat that as necessary until she goes to sleep. I would discuss this with your partner and agree to take it in turns so that you don't get too knackered and stressed (actually maybe he could do two in a row and you do one seeing as your 24 weeks pregnant).

I wouldn't leave her to cry but I'm really sorry I don't have any real advice. Something's gone strange there, has anything unsettling happened? Has her room changed or is she going through any other changes? Could it be weather related? There's so many things it could be but I would want to help her sort it out in a kind way rather than leave her crying

I've read a few books, and tried going in after 5mins, 10mins, then 15mins ect; when I was having trouble with getting her off to sleep in the evenings and that worked well big during the night it doesn't seem to work. Nothing has changed that I can think of. When I do get her up out of bed to calm Down and give her milk to settle her, she then thinks it's funny because she's up and thinks it's time to play! Even with all the lights off and me not talking to her. my partner works full time and i recently gave up work as I was finding it too much looking after toddler, being pregnant ect; so it wouldn't really be fair to expect him to get up!

She has one nap a day usually 2pm -3pm. She won't nap in morning as she doesn't wake till 8! She's always slept in, before I went back to work she used to sleep until 9/10am!

Well, your DP is equally a parent to your DD, and he'd have to be pretty unfair to let you deal with it all on your own. You are occupied in the daytime too, with your toddler, whilst also being pregnant. Arguably you need sleep more than he does, unless he's operating dangerous machinery or a surgeon or something.

I wouldn't give milk in the night at this age tbh, it's not good for teeth and it'll keep up up longer. Also I wouldn't get her up out of her bed (cot?), I'd leave her in bed and comfort her there unless she's really upset.

Have you tried sitting with her until she falls asleep?

KLou1105 · 08/09/2015 08:53

Yay After 6nights of waking she slept all through last night! Unless I was that tiered that I slept through it! Fingers crossed for the same again tonight.

She still loves her milk I think it's more of a comfort thing really, she always has about 5oz in morning before breki and about the same after tea before bed on a normal day. Occasionally if she's particularly un settled with teething and not eating much I will give her it then too, it seems to comfort her more than anything. do you think I should be cutting this out? I've tried staying in room a few times but 10mins after I go back to bed myself she's awake again!
