Not hungry at night waking

My ds is 7 weeks and a good day eater. He wakes between 11-12pm and takes a full feed. Last few nights he has woken again between 2.30-3.30, ive offered him a bottle and he's not been hungry, struggling on the bottle and spitting it out and crying. After re offering the feed a few times unsuccessfully I eventually got him back off to sleep and he woke at 5.15 and was hungry. He does settle himself to sleep in the evening so it's not this- any ideas what I can do? It's very frustrating for both of us!

How did you get him back to sleep?

slightlyconfused85 · 05/09/2015 12:35

After I was sure he didn't want the bottle I patted him a lot!

Giving him something to suck (dummy) may help settle him back to sleep quicker when not feeding.

Could you pat him then when he first starts to stir? You could just put your hand on his tummy lightly, you don't have to pick him up. That may help him settle back down.

I tried this last night but he just got worked up. I offered him the bottle, he took just 10ml then I put him back, he protested two minutes then fell asleep. He then woke up 1.5 hours later and was hungry. Perhaps I'm just going to have to wait till he just stops doing it..

Same here but bf. Has feed at 8pm then midnight ish, but doesn't seem hungry at other times in night (usually 2 and 4am). Will try the patting tonight...

Another vote for a giving him the dummy you might need to give it a few times after he spits it out but should get there in the end

33goingon64 · 10/09/2015 02:35

So patting didn't work then...

FATEdestiny · 10/09/2015 12:37

33goingon64 I assume you were not expecting that you could just start a new settling technique and it would magically just work, easy as that.

Whatever you choose to use as an alternate settling method is going to need consistent working at. It's unlikely to fully establish a new settling method in one month, let alone one night.

Fair point.

I've tried a few things over the last week and nothing seems to get him to settle again for more than half an hour or so. I'm just offering him a bottle for now and if it is that he's just a little bit hungry then so be it.

Well last night ds fed at 6.15, was in bed half an hour later and slept until 2.15!! He obviously was hungry then. Perhaps he is just sorting himself out and figuring out how to sleep longer stretches.
