Er... so how exactly do you put a bf, co-sleeping baby to bed before you?

I'd dare to ask for a teeny bit of my evenings back after 9 months but don't know how to do it. Bf to sleep and cosleeps which works fine overnight and for naps, but I'd like some semblance of a bedtime to be implemented now. She won't take a dummy. She tends to have a "pre-bed" nap at around 7pm, which lasts half an hour then she's up and wide awake until 10pm. Any advice is appreciated, thanks.

I put mine down to sleep on a sheepskin rug in living room

Get into bed with her as normal and sneak out when she's asleep!

You need to break that Pre bed nap habit... What time does she wake up? I would aim for two naps a day - one morning, one lost lunch and that's it.

I got my cosleeping bf baby in a cot for the start of the night first just by persisting with putting her in the cot after a feed and a wind. It took some repeating and sometimes I gave up but after a while we got there.

The pre bed nap may be a problem.

With DD I used to put her to bed at 7ish. Getting her to sleep would take a thing from half an hour to two hours, but then she slept deeply for 2-3 hours and I would sneak away. I'd then give her a dream feed when I returned to bed (pointless as she still woke up every two hours to feed).

DS is sleeping next to me now. I put him to sleep at 8, he drops off really quickly and then I hide out in the bedroom! If I left I would only get caught up doing DD's bed time routine so I'd rather hide and do MN!

Yes I'm not sure how to break the pre-bed nap habit though as when she wakes she is wide awake again.

What time are her daytime naps? Dc3 is 10 mo and bf to sleep / co sleeps when I go to bed. I put him in the cot until I go to bed, but do have to settle him a couple of times in the evening.

He naps a couple of hours after getting up and again 2-3 hrs after waking from first nap. So has a good stretch awake from say 3-4pm till bedtime 7ish. The morning nap is getting longer some days so I do think he's starting the transition to one longer nap.

He naps in his pram, I put his lullaby cd on (same one he has at bedtime) and push him back and forth in kitchen for 5 mins unless I'm out for a walk if weather good. Just need to break the bf to sleep at bedtime now Hmm

daisydalrymple · 29/08/2015 20:01

Sorry I push him in pram for 5 mins till he falls asleep Grin he doesn't get by all day on 2x 5 min naps!!!

Make 7pm bedtime and if she wakes up, act like its the middle of the night Smile DD used to wake up buzzing at 2am occasionally, I think most of the time we were back asleep before she was;

I am in the same boat. This week implemented 'operation free time for mummy' feeding my 10mth old to sleep then sneaking away. Have to go back 2-3x each night so far but hoping she will gradually get used to the new regime. What really upset it the last 2 days is my husband let her have a nap at 5pm! Maybe try and work the late nap earlier by 15mins each day?

Iggly · 29/08/2015 20:37

Is her room pitch black? Also how long has she been doing it for? and what time does she wake in the morning?

FoxesSitOnBoxes · 29/08/2015 20:41

Ugh. I am in exactly the same place with DS. The last week or so he's just been sleeping on me downstairs as I've lost all enthusiasm for going up and down to him in his cot and missing bake off.
I'm going to look into a sleep consultant soon because I think I need someone to check up on me so I can't just take the easy way out every night!
