Just hoping someone out there can tell me this isn't going to last much longer, I've had a week of constant waking and crying and wriggling and shouting and refusing to settle in the evenings, plus extra wakings in the night. Have resorted to sleeping in bed with me, and Calpol, and feeding back to sleep for the night wakings to keep me sane, please tell me those teeth will come through properly soon and he'll be back to being an angel? The top middle are nearly all the way through and the ones each side are bulging under the gums.

Feel a bit pathetic as it's not nearly as bad as some people have it, but he's always been such an angel with sleep that I'm just not used to it!

Oh, love, it won't last forever, ride it through. have you tried giving nurofen as well? Some people swear by ashtons teething powdwers, I prefer Boots own teething gel.

When they come through, his sleep will probably go right back to being angelic again.

You have my sympathy my ds is a miserable little wotsit with his top teeth at the moment. Bottom two were so easy I didn't even notice they were coming until they were poking right out. His poor gums look so stretched and purple with EVIL top teeth. Am hoping for a proper break before the next lot of teeth come.

Thanks - have just bought some calprofen and some more teething powders and some more calpol..... so will try those tonight and see how we get on. He's dribbling much less today so maybe it's a bit better, but you never know! His bottom ones were dead easy as well, a bit grizzly in the daytime but no sleep problems, so was woefully optimistic about these ones....

ah well....

We have had exactly the same (but the opposite way around) and it has been horrendous for the last couple of weeks. You have my sympathy!! The two on the side have broken through and I reckon the other two in the middle will break through within the next week or so (was hoping by the end of this week, but that now seems overly optimistic). When he was very distressed, I gave him 1 tsp of calpol and 1/2 tsp of ibuprofen which seemed to knock him out. Takes about 15 minutes to kick in, but then he generally slept through for the rest of the night.

you have my sympathies - we're currently breaking 3 teeth at the top at 9 months! today i've been up since 3 am with him unsettled.

the does calm down (that's the good bit) once they're actually thru, and we give him the nurofen before bed time and once in the night if it's needed.

he's been like this thou for about a month (gradually got worse over this past 10 days) when i've been like a zombie! lol

Ah well at least we're not the only ones suffering out there.....he did have a patch of sleeping through before all this started, now we're back to 3am feeds and this morning managed to get him to go back to sleep at 5am without a feed, but it was hard work.

Has anyone tried the bottle of water instead of milk trick with any success? We're considering it for tonight, would be good to know if anyone has done this with their little one.

Hope all teeth break through today and peace reigns once more!

He used to take water from a bottle in the night quite happily, but not any more. The other thing you can do (although officially advised against) is to dilute the formula so that he's not getting too many calories during the night to avoid his day-time feeding being affected... Good luck...

LittleMy34 · 24/11/2006 11:48

A good idea, but unfortunately he's bf, and I can't face expressing for a night time feed in order to dilute it. Might try straight water and see how we get on, he'll probably hurl it across the room but it's worth a go! trouble is, i have very little resolve at 3am, and DH is working really hard at the moment and needs his sleep, so I'm reluctant to let any fussing go on too long. A boob seems to shut him up nice and quick, it's all just too tempting.

Should he be using a cup for water at 7 months? he drinks from a Doidy Cup at mealtimes, but hasn't ever got the hang of a sippy - he just chews the end and grins.....

Oh we're going through the exact same thing ds had no teeth at all then got two at 7 months then at 10 months (he's 12 months tommorrow) 9 started coming through at once I kid you not, 8 of them have now come through but the other one is still cutting and now 2 more are coming too. Like your ds ours was a brilliant sleeper but in the last two months has been sharing our bed as it's the only way he will sleep through. I'm also hoping it won't last much longer!

poppiesinaline · 24/11/2006 12:35

Just think, he is cutting 4 in one go, at least you will have something to show for all this grief! He could cut one tooth slowly and painfully at a time.....

LittleMy34 · 24/11/2006 13:31

My goodness, nine! I thought we had it bad with four (or possibly five, there's definitely another lurking in there somewhere.....) It gets to the point where you can't remember what they used to be like, and you think you're going to have a cross baby forever, don't you?

Brought DS into bed with us this morning and when i woke up both DS and DH had rolled as close to me as possible, so I was completely squished between them, to the point where my nose was flattened on DH's chest. Nice to be needed, but perhaps a little suffocating?!
