Waking during night

My DS is 20 weeks. From the age of 6 weeks, he slept really well at night, only waking once at around 2.30-3.30 for a feed (he is BF). About 3 weeks ago, he started waking more regularly, sometimes 4 times a night!! Only a feed would settle him, but I'm not convinced that he is always hungry. The HV advised me to start weaning. He loves his baby rice, and he has had this at 11am for the past 4 days. He was much more settled for a couple of nights, but is waking more regularly again.
He can settle himself to sleep. He always goes into his cot awake at night and goes to sleep by himself. Sometimes, he needs a dummy to settle him during his daytime naps, but he still goes to sleep by himself and can go back to sleep himself. (he woke himself with a sneeze 10 mins ago and is now sleeping soundly again!)

How do I get him to be more settled at night? I'm not bothered if he sleeps through yet, I can cope with one night feed, but 4 is rather trying!

Evening, would up the food quantity - my DS was weaned at 22 weeks when he started feeding every hour on the hour and then 3 times a night! Tonight is probably a lost cause, but would try 2 baby rice feeds tomorrow and see how he goes. Good luck!

Thanks. I gave him the baby rice at tea time instead of at lunch time to see if that helps. Will try 2 feeds tomorrow.

Another thing that can cause waking is any new milestone reached, i.e. rolling, sitting etc. FunkyDude went through this as well, but it passed within 2-3 weeks. I think as soon as the novelty wears off a bit they settle again.

Good thinking Mum2funkydude - hadn't thought of that one!

Thanks for that. He is just learning to roll. He rolled from his tummy to his back twice about 2 weeks ago and hasn't done it since! Was much better last night - only up twice!
